A Historic Gem
Nestled in the Indre Valley, Château des Archevêques is a testament to a rich and long history. Built on the remains of an episcopal residence founded by Gregory of Tours in the 6th century, it became a retreat for the Archbishops of Tours in 1426.
Over the centuries, the estate evolved, notably after the French Revolution, when the mayor of Artannes filled in the moats. Since 1949, the château has been listed as a Historic Monument for its remarkable facades and rooftops.
Today, this historic residence has become a true family château. We now wish to share this treasure with you, offering the chance to stay in a place filled with history and charm—a unique opportunity to experience timeless elegance.
Let yourself be enchanted by authenticity, charm, and history…

Landscaped Park
The Château des Archevêques' park is maintained with a focus on preserving biodiversity. Lawns are left slightly wild to provide a refuge for birds and local wildlife.
For this reason, pets are not allowed, to protect this delicate ecosystem.
The château is just a few meters from the Indre River—an idyllic setting for relaxing, fishing, or simply admiring nature.
The Estate
The château is part of an estate that includes:
At the entrance: A longère (traditional farmhouse), a small house with a private garden, and the back park near the main gate.
Near the château: The château itself and the large front park.
During your stay, you will have exclusive access to the château and its front park, and shared access to the back park.
Please note that the longère and small house will be occupied during your stay. The back park may be crossed by their residents to access the main gate. However, the buildings are far apart, ensuring no noise disturbances between the château and the other accommodations.
Parking & House Rules
The château’s private parking can accommodate up to 8 vehicles (please park only on the gravel, not on the lawns).
Additional public parking spaces are available a few meters from the château, within the village.
Smoking is not allowed indoors. Please use the outdoor ashtrays provided.
