The neighborhood :
Place Sainte-Colombe: Formerly a market square in the 12th century, it was renovated in 2008. Benches have been installed, trees planted, and local residents and tourists alike now enjoy a pleasant break in the square.
The Saint-Pierre district is considered the birthplace of Bordeaux. It was only natural that this ancient Gallo-Roman port, which later became a medieval city, should take the name of the patron saint of fishermen. In the 12ᵉ century, the port was filled in. The ramparts of the walled city fell in the 18ᵉ, with the development of the Place de la Bourse. What remained was the 35-meter-high Cailhau defensive gate and pedestrian or semi-pedestrian lanes whose names recall the district's commercial and artisanal vocation: rue des Argentiers, rue des Bahutiers, or rue du Chai des Farines. In the 16ᵉ century, the neighborhood was also populated by bourgeois families around Saint-Rémi church.
