What can I say. Horrible place with horrible staff.
Arrived for a 1 night stay with 2 small children.
We were advised 24 hours before our stay that there would be live music, however as both the pubs website and Google state the bar is only open until 10pm this didn't appear to be an issue.
Arrived to check in and they didn't have a key for our room. Waited over an hour for a key to be provided.
The room was grubby (room 2) and looks nothing like the photos advertising it.
1. Wall paper peeling off the walls
2. In general just wasn't clean.... Had a really grotty feeling to it.
3. Shower door was broken and did not close
4. Numerous blotches of black mould throughout the room and bathroom
5. Fireplace full if cobwebs and just generally grim.... God knows when it was last actually used but didn't look like it had been cleaned for years!
6. Bedroom door lock was broken and the door barely closed.
Breakfast. Do not tick for breakfast!! Breakfast is advertised as being a selection of cereal, fresh pastries, fresh fruit and cereal bars. We were given 4 stale pastries and a couple of small boxes of cornflakes. Come the morning the 4x crossionts were rock solid and inedible. I asked the female manager if we could have some fruit as advertised and cereal bars again as advertised and she advised they didn't have any. No refund offered on the additional breakfast charge which was pathetic and not provided. Milk is in a communal mini fridge in the hallway outside the rooms.....
The bed was really comfy and the room went above and beyond for what I paid. Coffee Machine, cereal and a croissant.
Slept really well. They also let me check in Early.
Booked through Expedia, the info and photos are well out of date. The photos show beer on handpumps but they are no longer in use. "Breakfast for a fee" is replaced by cereal and croissants in the room. No hot food available in the morning.
There was no DVD player as listed, which we wanted for a particular reason. "Daily Housekeeping" didn't happen as no-one came into the room during our stay. I had to take our dishes to the kitchen and collect clean ones. None of the 3 lamps worked in the room and we had to wait to have them all replaced and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on as it is on a timer.
None of this good for a man having treatment for cancer, travelling to attend a funeral.
On the plus side, the staff were friendly and the snacks we had in the evening were nice.
In my opinion, this is accommodation for workmen.
I could feel every spring in the very cheap mattress so slept very poorly.
The shower wasn't attached to the wall and just produced a pathetic dribble of too hot water so unusable.
The cup/bowl wasn't cleaned during the day, or muesli packet replaced so i got half a very cheap breakfast and half a juice box per day.
Its a budget place, but not that cheap so i expected mire. its the same price as a travelodge which offers a lot more and is actually comfortable.
The staff are nice and friendly and the location is fine for a cheap visit to Bath, but I'm certainly not coming back.
From the first time we walked in until the moment we left all the staff we came across were friendly, polite and very helpful. The room was clean and well kept, the bar served nice food and beer. All in all we would stay there again if down that way.
Room was very dirty with insects in the lights, on the window ledges etc and a few bugs creeping around the room itself. Damp around the shower and broken sockets etc - room is very much in need of a refit. I opted for the family room so I had an en-suite so this wasn't exactly a budget option.
No cooked breakfast option just a prepacked croissant and pack of cornflakes with a communal fridge for milk.
Parking was also on a very busy main road and a very good chance of someone clipping the car - managed to find some parking on the estate behind but get drenched walking to and from the car.
Didn't opt for dining at the pub as it seemed more of a rowdy drinking pub when I checked in.
The smell in our room is what unfortunately makes this place somewhere I would not recommend for anyone else to stay at. The smell of smoke was awful (literally like someone had chained smoked in the room for years). The smell was stuck to the bedding, pillows… everything! It made the place feel really unclean and dirty. Upon arrival, our room door had been left open with a fan on in the room and a window open… I can only presume staff knew about the smell and tried to get rid of it before our arrival. It would have been nice for staff to tell us about this (or change our room). I would feel ashamed giving this room to anyone with how bad the smell was. We didn’t have time to mention to staff and it was literally a place to drop our bags off and go out. But when we got back we literally couldn’t sleep due to the smell… it made us feel physically sick. We checked out before staff were in work so didn’t get an opportunity to mention this to anyone. If you don’t mind the smell of smoke then you’re okay… but if you do, I wouldn’t not recommend!
