A Critical Review of the Gerloksy Hotel in Budapest - The Gerloksy Hotel offers a unique Budapest experience, but it’s not without its quirks. Here’s a quick rundown to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you. The Highlights -The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the Pest side, close to key attractions and vibrant spots. The building’s charm is another standout feature, reminiscent of an upscale, traditional Hungarian home. If you’re seeking an authentic experience over a standard chain hotel vibe, Gerloksy delivers. We also loved the breakfast package, served in the hotel’s on-site café. The food was fantastic, with upscale and unique options like bone marrow and foie gras. It’s a must for food enthusiasts. The Drawbacks - Unfortunately, the air conditioning didn’t work, making for uncomfortable, restless nights. Despite informing the front desk, nothing was done, which was disappointing. The staff’s casual approach also detracted from the experience. Employees wore street clothes, making it hard to tell who worked there, and service felt unpolished. Lastly, the bathroom amenities fell short. Housekeeping missed a day, soaps weren’t replenished, and the body wash seemed increasingly diluted, requiring multiple pumps for even basic use. Final Thoughts - The Gerloksy offers a charming, cultural stay in an excellent location. If you value uniqueness and can handle a “go-with-the-flow” approach, it’s worth considering—just keep your expectations in check.

Clean, comfortable, excellent location. Outstanding restaurant. Great decor. Did not like the perfumed air in the room and hallways. Service was a bit spotty. Sometimes great, sometimes poor. Did not appreciate the check-in clerk frequently showing his disdain. Hunor is paid to provide 4 star service, not to express his personal opinion of the guests.

Check-in was quick and smooth. Lovely decorated old time hotel/room with view of street. Loved all the decor in hotel and restaurant. Cleaned our rooms daily. Breakfast was amazing, cooked to order menu was delicious (tried something new each morning), and staff very nice and accommodating. Checked out late and was able to store our luggage for a few hours. Loved the location as it was walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go for our 3 day visit. Definitely recommend.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this characterful Hotel and would definitely recommend it. We had one of the rooms in the attic and whilst it was unique and comfortable, we would not suggest this room for anyone who has mobility issues as the bed is elevated and you have to climb up to access it. The Hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre and close to the Danube so ideal for sightseeing. There is a good selection for breakfast and we would highly recommend the restaurant where we had the best evening meal of our stay by far. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The Hotel arranged transport from and to the Airport for us which went without a hitch. Thank you to all at the Gerloczy Hotel, we had a lovely time.

This beautiful hotel had me time traveling. Felt immersed in its fin de siècle ambiance: Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec's era. A wonderful experience enhanced by a kind and sophisticated staff.

Lovely small hotel with plenty of character. Restaurant is great too with tasty food and live music. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Location couldn’t be better, 5 minute walk from underground hub and airport shuttle bus. Many of the main attractions within walking distance too. I would definitely stay here again.
