This is one of three traditional Moorish cottages located on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada of Las Alupujarra in the heart of a National Park. The area has been designated an area of natural beauty by UNESCO. Guests at the three cottages have exclusive use of the 11x6m luxurious swimming pool, the perfect place to relax in the heat of the day. Walkers can enjoy free access to the National Park in all directions from the Cortijos (cottages). The Cortijos are located in isolation from each other in 36 acres of fruit trees and woodland, each with its own private terrace. The cottages can be rented individually or all 3 together depending on numbers. The gardens have a substantial grassed area as well as an organic vegetable garden, a vineyard, countless fruit and nut trees and beautiful ancient chestnut trees.
Almond Cortijo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a bedroom and bathroom downstairs making it suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The kitchen is fully fitted with a gas hob and oven and large fridge. Directly outside the cottage is a covered veranda with large dining table and chairs. There is also a dining table with chairs inside the house.
During the summer months guests can enjoy the wide range of fruit and nuts from our trees. This is a paradise for people who enjoy walking, hiking, swimming, horse riding as well as those who just want to get away from it all in what is known as 'Secret Spain'. The success of Chris Stuarts novel, 'Driving over Lemons', has attracted a range of holiday makers looking for a different Spain from all over the world. The large lawn provides ample space for running about and playing games and the garden connects directly with the national park which makes hiking easy and accessible. Guests are encouraged to wander freely and explore. There is also a peaceful shaded area with various 500 year old chestnut trees, ideal for meditation, yoga and relaxation.
The cortijos are equidistant (approx 4 km) from the villages of Busquistar and Trevelez, both of which offer various food shops, bars and restaurants. Trevelez claims to be the highest village in Spain and is famous all over the world for its jamon serrano, cured ham. Wander around Trevelez and anywhere you look you will find jamon legs hanging from the ceiling of bars and restaurants. The famous white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capiliera are about 20 minutes drive away. These picturesque villages are full of traditional flat roofed Alpujarran houses and narrow alleyways, best explored on foot.
For those who wish to explore further afield the cortijos are ideally situated for visiting the world famous Alhambra palace and gardens in Granada which is just over an hours drive away. The Mediterranean coast is also an hours drive from the cortijos so a day at the beach is also easy. The beaches of Salobrena, La Herradura and Almunecar are all nearby.
