With all that you could need for a wonderful holiday or short break on the Kent coast, Queensland Cottage offers a comfortable bolthole, with a distinctly homely feel. The large kitchen is fully equipped for preparing a picnic for the day ahead or evening meals together after a day of exploring, with a separate dining room to enjoy memorable meals together.
Come evening, the living room is ideal for unwinding together, with a glass of wine, a good book or your favourite TV programme, with patio doors leading out into the garden beyond which includes a pond. Up the stairs, which are slightly steeper than normal but there is a sturdy handrail, that leads you to the two bedrooms and family bathroom. Should any of your party have mobility problems then there is a lift taking you to the first floor, although does not accommodate wheelchairs. Keys for the lift facility will be supplied if requested when booking. For families with young children a selection of toys has been provided for their enjoyment, and for their safety there is a gate at the top of the stairs, and can also be reassuring for some adults, which is easily put in place. Outside, a beautiful garden, patio and pond with a choice of seating areas for relaxing and breathing in that fresh sea and country air, fully enclosed for children to play.
Descend the hill and visit the secluded cove of St Margaret’s Bay, a 15-minute walk from Queensland Cottage, where you will find the Coastguard Pub keeping watch over the bay with views stretching as far as France, or why not visit the Pine Garden Museum with tea rooms an equal distance away? Take a guided tour of the South Foreland Lighthouse, just over a 20-minute walk away, with breathtaking panoramic views of the white cliffs and the English Channel, where keen walkers will marvel at the trail leading to Dover. Situated close to a cycle path and surrounded by National Trust land yet just 2 miles from Dover, St Margaret’s is the closest town in Kent to the continent. Don’t miss Dover Castle, or why not hop on the ferry and explore the continent for the day? If staying more local sounds more appealing, then the vibrant, creative coastal town of Deal is a 15-minute drive away, with the historic cobbles of the city of Canterbury and the harbour at Folkestone 15 minutes further. Queensland Cottage does offer something for everyone.
