If you are looking for Japanese Ryokan experience, this is not the place. However It’s outside appearance is. It’s dirty. The service is below par. Typical Japanese hospitality doesn’t exist. I can say it because I live in Japan 3 months out of a year and I have traveled and stayed in Ryokan all over Japan. Upon check in, the lady just showed room without showing the whole place. We paid for two nights but we left just after one night stay.
Good:
Nice environment (It’s a cultural heritage with well preserved traditional style of architecture)
Nice and friendly staff, I would have lost my camera if I hadn’t received the help from their friendly staff.
Cheap accommodation with Japanese styled decorated room. Comfortable and cozy in general.
Very convenient- 4 mins walk from Gion Metro Station, and around 15 mins walk away from Hakata train station.
Nicely-decorated lobby ;)
Bad:
Minimal noice isolation- might not be suitable for travellers who’re sensitive to noise.
Shared bathroom - very clean but it might not be convenient for someone who requires a private bathroom
Otherwise I’d recommend to my friends to stay in 鹿島本館。

Disliked: Amenities
It was an old traditional ryokan. Just the facility is not modern.
Quiet, but very central to main station and underground line (easy walking distance). Very reasonable price. An excellent authentic ryokan with public baths. Friendly and homely. Highly recommended in every respect. You will not be disappointed!

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
good hotel location nearby Hakata station and shopping street.
Charming on the outside but a bit run down on the inside. The owners are kind, but the ryokan could use a facelift and some airing out. The rooms smell somewhat musty, the shared bathrooms smell of sewer, and the common showering areas have seen better days. The rooms themselves are spacious and the staff clean and provide new towels and robes each morning.
Nice Japanese style ryokan. Good location - minutes walk from Gion subway station (actually walkable from Hakata station too), Kushida shrine, Kawabata shopping street and Canal City shopping centre. Family Mart just round the corner. Friendly staff.
Lovely bath, and close to hakata train station.
Our first Ryokan stay, and it was very nice.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Traditional ryokan. Linens and futon pad was clean, but the place definitely has some age to it. Great experience and great location in Fukuoka. Close to train station and nightlife.
We arrived in Fukuoka without planned accomodation and booked the hotel on the night. As it had only just been done, when we got there it hadn't appeared on the system yet. The owner (I think) of the hotel took his time out to look into the issue until he could find the booking and was really helpful in doing so. His attention to customers, both to us and others, was great! The room itself was pretty decently sized. As advertsided, it was a traditional room with futons. The hotel also has a nice garden inside along with some other nice features to enjoy, making it feel like a tradional experience.
This was the second time I stayed at Kashima, and there will not be a third. I do not know if I was wearing "rose colored glasses" the first time I stayed or not, but this time around I could not help but notice just how run down this ryokan is. While it has charm and character, it is in desperate need of renovation, including more insulation and soundproofing in the walls. And bedding that looks like it hasn't been washed and reused for several years... And a thorough dusting...
