We love staying in Fort Morgan because it is never as crowded as it is in Gulf Shores, and you can pay to have a company set-up your beach canopy which can remain on the beach for the whole week. This property comes at a decent price for the location, but it has definitely seen its better days. Clearly there is still some remainder issues from a recent hurricane, which include a strong musty smell in the kitchen cabinets and water damage that is apparent on the drapes. There were some signs of water damage in some other areas of the property. It does appear they recently updated the floors and the upstairs ceilings. From a cleanliness perspective, we know it is hard to get up all the sand from any beach properties, but the cleaning crew could definitely have tried harder before we arrived. We immediately had to Swiffer up a good pile of sand from throughout the property that was present on arrival. From there, the most troublesome part of our stay is that we were unable to change the temperature on the thermostat. We could not tell if this was a remotely controlled thermostat or if it was just broken and unresponsive. An email to the property manager about this was unanswered. Thankfully it was stuck on a colder temperature than desired as opposed to a warmer one and there were a few extra blankets to keep us warm when we were inside. The kitchen was decently equipped, but if you are accustomed to cooking on non-stick, you will want to bring your own. The only decent skillet was a stainless steel one. If you need it to be dark to sleep, don't count on sleeping past 6 am. There are no blackout curtains on the bedroom doors, so it gets very bright in the bedrooms very early. Truly, we cannot complain too much about this, because when you do wake up, the view is incredible from the living room and master bedroom patio/balcony sliding doors. I would say the stairs leading up from the ground level could use some non-skid surfacing. More than once, with wet or flip-flop clad feet, we felt uneasy walking up the stairs. Bottom line, don't expect the Taj Mahal, but you can anticipate a fantastic view and wonderfully convenient location to the beach!
