Property was very well maintained and the owners were extremely kind. The onsens were great, and a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were included in the stay.
The two main aspects I didn’t love about the stay were the beds and transportation to and from the hotel. Maybe I missed it or it wasn’t super clear in the description, but our twin beds were more like thin mattress pads and were super uncomfortable. I don’t think every room is like this, so verify with the pictures and descriptions. For the transportation to and from the main train station, there’s a poorly timed bus that doesn’t adhere to the bus schedule at all (granted, they delays are probably caused by tourists not knowing how Japan buses work). If you plan to stay in this area in general, expect another 1.5 hours of travel from the train station due to waiting for the bus and taking the bus.
Very clean and nice property. Multiple bus lines pick you up directly out front. Fast walk to the ropeway and that takes you to owakudani and lake ashii. We did not try onsen
As others mentioned the property is a bit dated but otherwise an excellent place to stay around Hakone and is very conveniently located from the cable car and the train stop. Food and Onsen were great and the place gives an idea of Japanese traditional hospitality. You can easily ship your luggage from the hakone station and don’t have to carry them around. If you have any dietary restrictions make sure you tell them in advance because their food offerings are predetermined. I would stay again
The staff were incredibly nice. Drove us to the station so that we wouldnt have to get a cab or walk to the cable car. Good eating experience. Youll certainly try some new things.
This seems cute towards groups. It’s a 10 minute walk to the nearest store and three minutes from the bus stop thru parking lot. The shuttle bus stops at 5 PM and Texas are in frequent and difficult to find so if you spend your time in the spa which is sorts of fun baths that is no problem however, if you don’t have a car not recommended
Hotel is fantastic. Kaiseki breakfast and dinner were fantastic. Recommend to include the meals as there aren't convenient nearby restaurants that you can easily access. Super close to Yunnesen Onsen for a fun day with the family. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and nice and front desk spoke English. Hotel has onsen downstairs, a little old and small, but is great for the price.
My wife and I really enjoyed all the breakfasts and dinners exquisitely crafted for us throughout our five nights stay at this exceptional hotel nestled in the midst of green mountain and forest with natural fresh air. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Although the bathroom was too small and the hotel location may be a bit remote, the excellent foods made our stay more than worthwhile.
The staff is very friendly and service is excellent. This is a ryokan-styled hotel. There are two onsens. The Japanese meals are excellent. It is a very quiet actually very small hotel without the business. It is a bit remote though.
This small hotel has lots of character, and friendly hard working staff who are keen to ensure your stay is comfy. It’s close to the Souznan funicular station and there are great views from the first floor lounge area over the town of Gora and to the mountains on the other side of the valley. Delicious Japanese meal served in the evening, choice of Japanese or western style breakfasts. Inside and outside onsens.
Hôtel assez isolé, qui mérite un vrai rafraîchissement.
Personnel très sympathique et accueillant, onsen agréable.
Proximité avec le téléphérique intéressante pour rejoindre le lac, même si ce n’est pas donné.
Very Old fashion, very run down, not refurbished for very very long time). Pictures do not show how it looks in the reality. The only good thing was the clean sheets . The onsen was not worth a visit. (Dark and did not feel Fresh)
Summary in total; not at all value for money!!!
We have traveled a lot around Japan, and this Hotel was really disappointing us. Made the total experiences of Hakone not great.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Amenities
1. Staff are all very nice and polite
2. The worst thing is the food. Dinner is not food, not much food and we need to drive to family mart to buy cup noddle
3. Onsen is real but no good view
