Poor stay. Had room 5 on ground floor. Felt insecure with an open door to the high street adjacent to room itself. Could hear every footstep from creaking floorboards in room upstairs, wise occupants seemed to be up at all hours. Next to no sleep. Room stone cold, turning the radiator on by window made no difference. Breakfast food very average. No hotel parking spaces available. Was expecting much more considering the price we paid
Hotel was centrally located within easy access of the main shopping area.Hotel beautifully decorated for the festive season.Room clean and cosy. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Would definately stay here again.Great value for money
Had a lovely time. The place has a great location and is beautiful inside. Only thing that could have been improved was breakfast service. It was quite chaotic (which is normal at certain times) but there didn’t seem to be enough staff on shift to deal with managing the situation. For example there were no plates, no glasses, no milk, no water left etc people were trying to find a member of staff but there were so few and the staff there seemed to be focused on dishing out poached eggs rather than managing the que in the breakfast hall. The food itself was good though. Except for this it was a lovely trip & would come back again.
Second time staying at this hotel for the city’s annual art and comic festival. The Hotel is across the road from the event, making it ideal for the weekends happenings.
Rooms are clean and well kept. We found it had everything we needed for our short stay. Plenty of hot water and amenities. Breakfast was excellent, well stocked and well organised.
The staff were always polite and helpful. We will be returning for sure.
Only issues are that a bar/club venue next door can play music into the late hours. Making early nights difficult. Not sure what can be done about that. If you’re on the other side of the building it doesn’t seem to be an issue. Also the reception is actually one side of the main bar, this can be difficult on busy Saturday nights when it’s busy.
Ideally located in the centre of town.
Rooms are spacious with good size bathroom.
All clean and well maintained.
Breakfast was a little disappointing-as with ‘self service’ it is about timing so it is a matter of luck how long the food has been sat on a ‘warmer’ and they are never hot enough to start with.
All staff were pleasant and tried their best.
For £245 a night I think the food should be a better standard.
1st time ive stayed at this hotel. Its a beautiful.building and its stunning inside the bar and resturant area. Our room was clean and comfortable and decent size.
Breakfast had lots of choice .
Our only 2 gripes were at breakfast the toaster did not toast had to put it through 4x times! Secondly we couldnt get any spare milk for our room for a morning cuppa. Went out on the corridor in pjs hoping to find a housekeeper but noone around you cant ring reception as no phones.Maybe idea to put a little service station on corridors .
Otherwise really enjoyed my stay and wished we had stayed longer hopefully will be back next year.
Woken both mornings at 6-7am by cleaning noises from the room above. It sounded like they were in our own room!
Food, both at breakfast and evening dining was pretty average.
Arrived around midnight to dirty sheets that hadn't been changed - crumbs and hairs when we pulled back the duvet - gross. Night manager apologized and brought up clean sheets but had no clean pillowcases, so again...gross. Same crumbs were on the floor and nightstand. Obviously not cleaned. Apologies are great, but maybe not charging us the full rate when the room is filthy would have gone a lot further in the lasting impression. Something should have been done. Breakfast was decent, but not sure I'd stay there again with what happened and how it was handled.
