"The Art Studio" This memorable place is anything but ordinary.
Located next to a bar PLEASE DO NOT rent if your going to give us a poor rating because it is next to a bar. READ more about this property under "The space" below. Most younger guest really enjoy this location and have no problem with it being next to the well known Hookah Bar.
Not your traditional apartment. Located on the Washington Corridor known for lively restaurants and nightclubs this art studio is next to a nightclub and has the potential for music playing loud until 2am some nights. The loft has a low ceiling good for sleeping not standing!

A Motel-Style VRBO Stay
I was not expecting a luxurious stay, but I was expecting cleanliness and a sound structure. It was dusty (especially on the a/c units) there was a pee smell that wouldn't go away (probably from the old rugs) and there were ROACHES. Bought cleaning stuff to make it more comfortable (there was a little fabuloso & borox available, but nowhere near enough). The linens had stains and cigarette burns in them, so I got a new set of towels from Walmart. We couldn't afford to get new sheet sets so we slept on top of the comforters, afraid of what we'd find below. The best thing about this stay was the proximity to everything from the Walmart that's 3 mins away to the Aquarium, Parks & other hot spots. So when we were called a day into our stay and asked if we would like to move into another one of their properties (that was 15 mins away) because they wanted to do construction on another part of the building, we stayed. Not to mention we're 2 young women who didn't feel safe moving somewhere else midtrip. If you value privacy, they have 3 trailers right outside and sheer curtains over the glass door, facing the bed (you can see right through). The roof doesn't look 100% safe and I'm sure part of the odor issue could have been water damage. Honorable mentions are the makeshift shower held up by painted boards w/ a broken shower head hook + the "you have to pull it to you for it to lock/unlock" front door. This is the truth, don't let the owner tell you otherwise!

The maid was very rude and pushy
The stay was pretty nice check in is at 4pm and check out is at 12pm or so the ad says the maid came to my door at 10:50 and was pushing her way in said I should have been gone a long time ago and very rude will never go back

Quick weekend getaway
Rented this little property for the 2nd time and got to see some of the improvements the owner made, place looks great! Owner was super responsive to any questions we had, and the convenience of where it is, is perfect, so many different places within walking distance, saves you quite a bit on parking when you’re going out to eat.

Nice and neat art studio
Mike the owner is very nice. This place is nice and the price is very cheap. The only downside is that the A/C is right next to the bed. I had no choice but to put my luggage in front of the A/C outlet to cover the A/C to prevent the air-conditioning from blowing directly on me and causing rheumatism.

If you just want to save money stay here and you will. If you want it cleaned on time, consistent water pressure, a tv remote, toilet paper that is not sand paper (bought my own and took it home), or to sleep on a non bloody mattress cover stay somewhere else. Thought we would “help clean” and discovers stains everywhere after removing the sheets to help.

Close to it all, Cozy & Affordable
The listing is still not completly finished. My friend found it unnerving that a lot of the outlets, switches and lights were a mishmash of indoor and outdoor fixtures in/with strange locations/fasteners that most likely were not up to code. But as far as Im concerned everything worked- we had lights, ice cold AC, hot water & working outlets that we could plug things into. So I don't have any personal complaints about that. It is close to all the food, nightlife & goings ons that happens in the Washington Ave corridor + Montrose. So location, location, location! It's super affordable & seemed quiet + safe. We didn't hear any noticeable noise from neighbors or from the hookah bar on the other side of the wall. The place is very small but with such high ceilings it felt bigger than it actually is. I never once felt cramped in the shower or in the downstairs sleeping area. The photo of the bed on the listing makes it look like it's a king bed but I'm positive the two beds are both only full size. So if you are taller or wider than average you may not fit the bed. We also didn't have any issues with mold or musty smells. My partner has very sensitive allergies & didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Overall I loved staying at the artist studio. It had an amazing location, a great price & was super cozy/cute. The trade-offs for those three things is that it's unfinished. Sounds more than fair & reasonable to me! seems hightively quiet and safe.

Cute little spot in the Heights
Had a few minor issues upon check in but was quickly resolved. The Art Studio was perfect for me and my (adult) daughter. I will say... it is next to a bar so it can be a little noisy in the evening, but that didn't bother us. This spot was so close to everything we needed too. Thank you for letting us stay here. I would totally stay again.

Moldy ,exposure to insulation debris
Was pretty ran down old Smokey cigarettes and sweat smells. A c units filled with black dirt. It was winter unfortunately they had only a c . Bags over the ceiling was the most unsafe/hard to breathe time of my life . Bags on ceiling in restroom had me not even wanting to look inside. Unsafe and should be unlivable asap I tried getting Refunded the same night but the owner quickly ignored me from the first complaint. He disputed my charge claiming that the item was described as posted . Wich is a lie

I enjoyed the uniqueness of this rental. It had everything I needed and I loved that it was right off of Washington ave. There are many places in walking distance to get food and join the nightlife off Washington ave.

The location was great, the place was nice and tidy. The property manager had very poor communication and the cleaning person was late in letting us in (she had the key to the place) but other than that it was great.

The noise didn’t really bother us like others complained, but the house smelled very musty like old setting water. The neighbor lady kept sneaking through the fence and taking/using. There was another man on a bike sneaking through the fence rummaging through piles of rocks. Honestly we were afraid to be outside because these people were so off and kept showing up. After the man rummaged through the rocks another man showed up in a truck an rummage md through them as well. Not from Houston, so didn’t n ke the area

Very Disappointed
Overall I was extremely disappointed. The listing said there was a hot tub, there was not. The cleaning person was still there when we got there and said she was running late. The property owner didn't respond for hours after I messaged them. The ceiling was covered in what looked like trashbags that were attached with tacks.

Minimal But Cozy
Stayed here with three friends on a college trip. Location was as advertised (next to bar) but didn’t find the noise to be very loud or troublesome, even over the weekend. One thing to note is there is black tarp across the ceiling which felt a little odd/exposed but no real complaints.

Nice location and a perfect spot for me over the holidays with my moms house full of siblings. With all the bar hoppers, it needs a black out curtain for late night privacy, but the light filtering curtains didn’t bother me. Amazing price!

Great location, good communication
We wanted a central location in town for ease of travel. We always travel with our dog and since we were having a long distance drive being able to walk the dog and get around was important. We wanted inexpensive since we had a lot of things to see with our family. We found for the price, the location and amenties this was really good. The listing is honest. It is next door to a band playing music. If you like music, it's a good place to be! We also brought along a bluetooth speaker and just played ocean waves that smoothed out the sound for us. Everyone slept fine, if you are a 2nd shift or night owl-- it likely won't be an issue. And there were some fun characters out. We found the kitchen was kitted out with enough stuff to cook with over the holidays. The beds were cozy. It is December when we arrived-- heat worked; hot water worked; there was soap, shower gel, ect ( we brought our own-- not knowing). Fluffy towels, fluffy bathmats, all fine. It's artsy, and it is as it reads in the listing. We tried out Voodoo Doughnuts and they were great. We walked the dog and found the neighborhood and neighbors friendly. No problem parking the car-- we had a good time and would and do plan to stay again.

The photos make the property look kept up, refurbished, and overall a cute boutique place to stay. The beds were smaller than pictures. The shower was dirty and the hot water took 10+ minutes to heat. The door did not seem very secure. You can hear EVERYTHING, including your next door neighbors. It sounds like they're in the room with you. The ceiling was black garbage bags held up by push pins. The beds were at least comfortable and it worked for what it was. Glad I didn't pay a cent more to stay there.
