We recently stayed at the Portofino resort and wanted to share our experience. We appreciated the theming around the Bay area, and the availability of room service was a nice option. However, we found the guest rooms to be quite outdated and dingy. The bath towels had stains and holes. Additionally, we encountered difficulties in obtaining extra towels for our room. The staff overall was less than helpful. This experience did not meet our expectations for a five-star resort, we believe it falls more in line with a three-star rating.

The hotel is generally a good option for universal, but it doesn’t feel very luxurious. There was no one at checkin when we arrived around midnight to help with bags, the rooms are quite basic with basic amenities despite having got a higher class room, the boats to the theme park can take 30-40 mins due to queues and infrequency at peak times. The restaurants are good - with a good breakfast. Really would only stay again for the express pass

The hotel is top class. Staff are so friendly. Very easy to access the Universal parks either by boat or 15 minute walk. Restaurants , deli, coffee shop and bars on site were great but lots of choice at City Walk as well. We will definitely be back. Sad to leave!

My two children and I just spent the past 4 days at Portofino Bay. The employees were very kind, accommodating, and extremely helpful. The hotel is gorgeous. Yes, there is construction going on, but the only thing that affected for us, was getting to the pool. It was a hike. Otherwise it was the perfect place. We enjoyed the boat ride to Universal and even tried the path to walk there. It was gorgeous! We would go back.

The hotel is outdated and currently under construction. All of this is okay, except we payed a premium to stay at this resort. We were given a room with scaffolding outside the window, which blocked the view. We were hung up on 2 times by staff when we called to ask for a room change. Our room was not cleaned, unless we called and asked, and then it was after 6 PM. Overall, the Hard Rock is a much better choice, and I would not stay here unless you have absolutely no choice.
