The space
Built in the late 1800's, the Cottage is unique, comfortable and steeped in local history. Although in use as a 3 bedroom, one bath cottage for quite some time now, it was originally built as a general store for locals living in what's now the Shenandoah National Park. The "Old Judd Store" has played its part in the history of the area!
The kitchen is charming and fully equipped to meet your cooking needs. The dining room seats 6 comfortably and the large living room windows connect the indoors to the beautiful surroundings.
Each of the three bedrooms have their own unique charm but all three have cozy beds and nice bedding for an excellent nights sleep. The main bedroom has a twin sleeper sofa as well as a queen bed. The second room has a queen bed and the third a twin.
Off one side of the house is a private porch. The view of the field across the street with the mountains rising behind is wonderful in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee, watching the mist and sun rise and listening to the birds waking up.
Off the other side of the house is a west facing deck to enjoy the sunset and perhaps a local wine, beer or spirit (please ask us for recommendations!).
The cottage is in a quiet, rural neighborhood and is situated on a country lane allowing easy access to many local attractions
- 4 miles to the Thornton Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park
- 2 miles to beautiful Lake Arrowhead Recreation Park
- 5 miles to the charming town of Luray
- 7 miles to Luray Caverns
- 12 miles to Sperryville
- 18 miles to Shenandoah River Outfitters
- and within an hours drive to many, many vineyards, breweries and distilleries

You can enjoy a beautiful country stroll directly from the cottage, or access hundreds of miles of trails in Shenandoah National Park from the Thornton Gap Entrance. Whether you prefer waterfalls, scenic overlooks, strenuous hikes or a walk in nature, we can recommend just the right trail for you.
During the summer, you can cool off at the Lake Arrowhead public swimming beach just down the road, or rent canoes, kayaks or tubes and spend a day enjoying the scenic Shenandoah River.
The most popular local attraction is Luray Caverns, the biggest cavern in the Eastern U.S. After enjoying a tour of the caverns, with its cathedral-sized rooms and crystal clear pools, you can walk over to the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum, the Shenandoah Heritage Village, the Garden Maze and the Rope Adventure Park, all on the same campus.
The two closest towns are Luray, 10 minutes from the house, which has a movie theater, performing arts center, gallery, coffee shops, tea shop, and a variety of restaurants and eateries. Sperryville is 20 minutes away and has a variety of fine art galleries, restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries, as well as local markets and shops.
Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. Out of consideration for our neighbors we strictly enforce these hours.
