We come up to the Mt. Shasta/McCloud/Dunsmuir area annually!
I was raised coming up to Cave Springs as a child. I have brought my family and friends yearly to this area to enjoy the lakes, rivers, waterfalls and hiking.
This was our first time at Falconcrest in Mt. Shasta. Family and friends thought the place was out of Disneyland’s Fantasyland. The spaciousness of rooms and living/gaming spaces was perfect.
The outdoor deck was the perfect way to start the morning in solitude and nature, and end the evening with games and snacks.
Even though you have neighbors it reminded us of more secluded places we’ve stayed at in McCloud.
Beds were comfortable and the 3 bathrooms were a perk! Kitchen was tight, but had everything you needed. Just not a lot of pantry room if your bringing food (so bring tubs).
The proximity to downtown Shasta was awesome. So, unfortunately we came in the middle of a heat wave. 5 days over 100 degrees. Not normal for the area - but happens every few years in July/August.
Most homes in the area do not have central AC - so if this is real important to you - look for it.
We were out of the property every day by 10:30 - 11 a.m. Shut down the windows and closed the shades and came back at 7 pm or so. House was manageable when we returned. Fans in every room helped - and the real important thing is this: downstairs rooms are naturally cooler; and upstairs masters can get nice and cool if you open bout huge windows, and turn out all the lights - so no bugs come in.
Those evenings were actually so beautiful and the room over the deck (without a screen) looks into the forest and it’s magical!
If your traveling with a large group, and teens/adults looking for some private spaces - this place is hard to beat!
