The pods are not properly closed on top, you can hear everyone coughing and hacking. I got a nasty strain of Covid here and am still unwell 12 days later and miserable. Do not stay here in fall/winter - or if you are immunocompromised - ever. It’s a lovely hostel with great location and amenities annd common spaces otherwise but with that warning. The staff are kinda absentee everything’s on some video call box and it takes ages to find a human. I felt like asking them a question was an inconvenience and waited a long time in the lobby. Not the end of the world but feels like they need customer service refresher. I wasn’t asking for anything high maintenance either - just help checking in/out and bag storage. They should offer face masks (not just eye ones, mouth kind) and insist anyone with cold symptoms wear it inside the building at least.

Absurdly Small
It’s a submarine unit sized room, with rules and regulations equivalent to Soviet Russia for no noise, food, guests or drinks. It’s a bed in a Porto potty essentially. But it’s cheap for New York, which is being the tallest midget in terms of hotel rooms. Walls are thin, expect to hear snores, itches, burps and farts of anyone near you throughout the night.

The reviews were very helpful for my stay. Most important thing: this is essentially a hostel with multiple rooms that happen to be enclosed in walls. Ceilings are open so you'll hear other people sleeping/snoring/waking up. Bring earplugs! Also if you're over 6' you won't be able to stretch out completely. If you're onboard for all of that in exchange for one of the cheapest stays in NYC, then the bathrooms and common areas are top notch - very stylish. It's the right stay for the right moment.

Worst ever lodging. False and misleading description. Absentee management . A single vacant guy upon checkin angrily have me a room on the men’s floor where I was literally in a micro dorm room with thin walls and no ceiling opposite the washroom while dozens of loud snoring mammals prevented any kind of sleep/rest/comfort. Bedding? Mattress? Flooring? A mountain hut in Nepal is luxury compared to this . Tried to obtain a refund for the second night thru Expedia who did nothing and a different single careless guy whom was unapologetic about everything including the fact that the bathroom was not supplied with toilet paper or soap .

Confusing check in, no one was available, then by virtual cal never explained the process! Bathroom cold and not always clean! Also no paper towel or air to dry hands. Place is very dark on the hallways and like a maze with poor signage. Room is a prison, zero decor. Not even one hanger. $2 sheet and a barely 1/8” think blanket the size of an infant. Door Lock is extremely annoying and complicated.Unfinished ceiling! Paper thin walls you can literally hear the guest next door snoring or even rolling in bed while sleeping! Two $2 wall lamps that were literally falling apart! Very poor condition. The area is nice though and close to the city. But leave this place as the very last possible option.

Save yourself and book anywhere else
One of the worst places to stay to. I couldn’t have a proper rest! Beside the room is literally a box with one tiny bed max for someone up to 1.70 cm (I am 1.65cm) you can hear everything from everyone. Farts, cough, talking, slamming doors you name it. No matter what time is people are super noisy. Even with earplugs was hard to sleep. Thin paper walls with open ceiling makes it hard to switch off from a hard walking day in NY. No hot water at all in the showers. During my 3 nights stay, was able only once to have a shower and that was with cool water. All the rest of the days, no matter day or night water was freezing cold. Had to wash my hair and myself in a sink at the separate toilet which gave me some hot water. Not enough showers and toilets for the too many guests and not feeling safe while you are in the shower as people come in and out. There is only one hook to put your stuff which anyone could take while you are in the shower . It’s cheaper than anything else out there in Manhattan but please save yourself from this torture and pay a bit more by staying somewhere else that at least provides the very basic. I am not sure what happened but one of the nights at 11pm they kicked out a guest from one of the boxes-rooms. I could hear the conversation but they didn’t even tell him why. They just cancelled his reservation and kicked him out. Guest seemed polite on his responses so it was hard to believe that he did something that bad to be kicked out at that time!

No sleep possible
It’s clean and a good location, but if you want any sleep don’t do it. It’s basically like 35 beds in one room all together. You hear everything like it’s right next to you. I slept maybe 3-4 hours a night maximum.

The women's only shared living room & kitchen were cute. Shower pressure & hot water was good. The rooms are old & doesn't have enclosed ceilings so you can hear your neighbor cough & snore but you get what you pay for. The overnight guy was friendly & helpful. Check in was really easy with no front desk.

Not a place I would go back too. Bathrooms not clean. Rooms are cubicles with no ceiling... 25 per floor. The snoring was unbearable and no management to address it. Powdered coffee in the morning, did not help...

Have you ever wanted to role play as a stowaway?
This is a very specific type of place to stay. While it's a hostel, it honestly feels more like a transient shelter. There are very strict rules about not making noise because everyone is crammed in like sardines in "cabin" stalls that are just big enough for the bed. Even if you're under 6' you should think about the ways you stretch and move around while you sleep because you're at serious risk for getting hurt. One night I woke up to someone screaming bloody murder - I assumed it was either because she was having a nightmare, almost fell off the small bed, or both. Not everyone respects the no noise rules (staff included). It has a weird antisocial atmosphere. Could use more bathrooms, better lighting, etc., etc., but it's decently clean if you need a place to pass out in NYC. You'll have to pass out because there's just too much wrong with the place to get comfortable and sleep.

Nolita Express - basic but does the job
The Nolita Express is well located to walk uptown (30mins to Union Square and 1hr to Rockefeller Centre which is do-able if having a gentle wander) but also close to Spring Street and Canal Street subways which connect with a variety of other subway lines. The hostel's common areas are decorated with a vintage feel and feel welcoming. The actual rooms are very small with just enough room for a short bed (I'm 5ft 2 inches and my feet could touch the wall at the end of the bed) and space for a suitcase alongside. There is no complete ceiling on the bed space so it is *very* easy to hear others talk, snore and cough but earplugs are provided (I didn't try these so don't know how effective they are). I stayed in December so the prices may have been higher and it did seem expensive for the dorm space provided, but as a basic hotel room was $800 more, it was a no-brainer! If you're looking for cheaper accommodation that's central and all you really need is a place to put your head at the end of the day, the Nolita Express will do the job just fine. No complaints - thank you for my stay!

I liked a lot, the only problem is if someone near you snores very laugh, it will be hard to sleep. Also one single toilet for a whole floor it's hard to take a bath or simply use the toilet. The location and the staff was amazing, was good for some vacation days.
