** There's no place like Colonial Williamsburg and Hampton Roads for the holidays. You'll find enduring traditions, charming decorations, and a season that still warms the heart. Enjoy the Grand Illumination December by staying close by at Camellia Cottage. Visit other holiday events while you’re in town or just enjoy family for a wonderful holiday season. We still have an opening for the week before Christmas so book now!
For traveling nurses, doctors, professionals and your families, the cottage is minutes away from Riverside Regional Medical Center, Sentara Hospital, and Mary Immaculate Hospital. The cottage is also close to Ft. Eustis Army Base, Langley Airforce Base, and the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. We welcome mid- and long- term stays. Inquire about special pricing.
The Hilton Village neighborhood was built between 1918 and 1921 in response to the need for housing during World War I for employees of Newport News Shipbuilding. It is recognized as the United States' first Federal war-housing project. The Camellia Cottage was built in 1919. Naturally, it will have a few quirks due to generations of family enjoyment. It is a beautiful property decorated as "modern-vintage", and we hope that you embrace its character and charm during your visit.
We hope you enjoy the Camellia Cottage appropriately named in honor of my late father who was a botany professor at Christopher Newport University for 35 years.
The house has a large primary bedroom upstairs equipped with a queen and twin bed. The second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed. The full bathroom with a tub is also upstairs.
The eat-in kitchen is equipped with coffee/ tea supplies, spices, and everything you will need for a home-cooked meal. Additionally, there is a large dining room that is able to seat six guests for an elegant dinner together.
Also, downstairs is a lovely living room and sunroom. You can enjoy watching children playing and neighbors walking their dogs. There is a fireplace, so you can relax at night with heating and color-producing faux fire logs.
The third bedroom, which doubles as a family room, is downstairs and has a very comfortable sleeper sofa. This room includes a designated workspace and also exits to the outdoor patio for relaxing around the firepit, grilling, or enjoying what nature has to offer. We are still working on landscaping the backyard, so we request you look beyond any areas that have been seeded but have not yet begun growing grass.
The home, quaint neighborhood, and all that Hampton Roads has to offer will certainly have you coming back for more!
P.S. We welcome guests from all cultures and alternative lifestyles.
