Nestled amidst a grove of live oaks and redwoods near the vibrant heart of Oakland, this 1920s cottage retains its historic charm but has enough modern amenities to meet the needs of any 21st century traveler. Set up for both work and play, the home boasts four bedrooms with adjacent or ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom with walk-in closet boasts a romantic Juliet balcony overlooking the large backyard. Bedroom 2 and 3 contain large IKEA corner-style desks, one with a stand-up desk. The souterrain bedroom area contains a very comfortable sleeper sofa, large-screen TV and Nordic Track to keep in shape while you're on the road.
A luxurious two-level back deck with lawn and flagstone patio invites outdoor parties from April to October and an expansive backyard with potting shed and veggie/fruit garden allows your inner farmer to thrive. The kitchen is thoroughly re-done with bay window seating (where you can watch hummingbirds feed), double sinks, kitchen island, and toaster and warming ovens. Two bicycles in the garage allow travel on our bike, child and dog-friendly street -- down to the Saturday farmer's market or up into the scenic Oakland Hills.
One caveat to your stay here is that the home comes with two cats, Charlie and Django. They prefer the outdoors and will spend most of their time there. They have automatic food and water dispensers (filled before each stay), and their garage-level litter box (which they have access to with cat doors) is taken care of by a service. People with mild cat allergies are fine in the house.
