Novel Experience

Beautiful location with a novel concept of “Staying inside the Castle”, it’s more like staying in a hotel room, inside the Castle walls. They created a touch of charm by adding a welcome treat and sharing a letter about one of the Queens. We received an access card into the Castle to view some of the rooms and restaurant. The shops and walking streets inside the Castle walls help to create a village atmosphere. Our room provided standard amenities but appeared old and tired (hair dryer). No photos of the room as it lacked that WOW effect. We also notified the team via the app that we would be celebrating our 20th Anniversary (no special accommodations were made…for example, there was no note to say congratulations). Breakfast was good, but for the price point I would have expected more. I would not recommend booking dinner in the Restaurant (there are lots of great places in the village). At check in we were provided a map with recommendations, that was incredibly helpful. The staff was friendly and polite. We enjoyed our ride into the village and leaving the village and getting to talk to the locals.

Extraordinary stay at the Pousada Castelo de Óbidos! Though we thought parking outside of the castle walls would have been problematic, it wasn't whatsoever! The pickup & dropoff service offered by the hotel (and specifically Guillerme) was exceptional! We truly enjoyed all of the amenities offered by the "castle" ~ a once in a lifetime experience! We'll be back!!

This is most likely the nicest hotel in Obidos, located in the former medieval Moorish Castle and subsequent Bishops Palace, in the heart of the old city. Note that you must park outside the walls in the free lot behind a nearby bank. The hotel provides a golf cart shuttle for your luggage. The rooms are comfortable. Good included breakfast in the Bishops Palace.

The rooms in the castle are small and quaint, but, hey, you’re staying in a castle! It’s magical! The staff is great both in the hotel and dining room. The food in the restaurant is terrific!

Experience a castle stay

Great hotel to experience the flavor of a historic castle, with many more creature comforts than the original inhabitants had. Clean and comfortable room, great bathroom, even a separate room for the bathtub! We were so impressed. Staff very kind and attentive. Parking is a bit interesting as it is outside the castle walls, but the reception responds quickly to transport you and luggage to your room, so no worries.

Our stay in the castle was a great experince. The staff friendly. Breakfast great with some healthy choices Need to know walking here is on cobblestones. Cars are not allowed. If staying at the castle you are walking with suitcases from the bottom to the top. Wear good shoes Lots to do within the castle. Other places to visit are about an hour away

Dreadful, this place is not worth the money. If you HAVE to stay in Obidos, choose somewhere cheaper. This place has zero soundproofing in the rooms, you can hear absolutely everything your neighbours are up to, from using the bathroom, having a conversation to midnight fun & games. Staff are wonderful as is the breakfast, but unless you pay top $$$ for the most expensive Castle rooms, it’s not worth the money. For two nights, we had a total of 7hrs sleep - dreadful.

Lack of communication

Timing for my trip was unfortunate due to the Christmas fair that was taking place immediately beside the hotel. Parking was impossible; the hotel had not contacted me with instructions on where to park & how to contact them when I arrived. The hotel is very hard to find, but fortunately, I asked a kind shopkeeper to assist me. The trek up to the hotel is long, steep, and over cobblestones.

The hotel was fine. I would not consider it 5 Stars. The service was good. The room was small, it did not feel like we were staying in a Castle. The hotel does not have parking , you park 5 min away and they send a car to pick you up. Pack light, you will have issues with large luggage. The village does not allow anyone to park inside. I would consider spending less money in another hotel nearby. All and all, it was a good experience

This is a legit castle that you can walk around and explore. The medieval city within the walls was amazing to see and explore. The food options, drinks, wines and shops were plentiful and all perfect. The people were so friendly and helpful. The city locals and tourists all combine in this area to chat over a glass of wine. The views of the city are breathtaking. I would highly highly recommend this property for a one of a kind stay in a real castle. Being a real castle, the rooms are not the most soundproof, but quiet enough. It’s your room neighbors that could keep you up. Parking is not the easiest as the streets are tight and crowded during peak times. Otherwise, this is a great place.
