The Space:
#StayinMyDistrict Buckman Loft. The upper level loft sits above a separate street level 1BR/1BA apartment (please inquire if you would like to rent both units!) and offers plenty of street parking in the surrounding block. The space has been updated and reflects a modern Mid Century vibe with unique touches and appreciation for the arts.
The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with a new wood frame and mattress as of May 2024, high quality linens, and plenty of space for guests personal items, and a Smart Roku TV.
A second bedroom has a queen size bed, a Smart Roku TV. This room also has a small desk to act as a private office to make working remotely easy. With blazing fast Wi-Fi throughout the property of up to 400Mbps down and 12Mbps up, video or Teams calls are a breeze.
The full bathroom is modern, clean and updated with a walk in rain shower and modern fixtures. Bathroom amenities include quality linens, shampoo and conditioner, and hairdryer.
The main living area has a loveseat and an arm chair. A large, Roku SmartTV is provided for your viewing pleasure and electric fireplace for those cool evenings. It opens up off of the kitchen and dining area to create a very communal space – great for multi couple or family trips. The TV is on a mount that can be tilted towards the kitchen so you don’t have to miss your favorite show while cooking.
Located in a foodie neighborhood, you will enjoy walking to local dining options! The well appointed kitchen includes top of the line pans in All Clad and heavy duty non-stick and cast iron frying pans, Crate and Barrel plates and bowls, full sized GE stainless appliances, including a refrigerator with ice maker and filtered water dispenser, a dishwasher, microwave, gas range, and a great island for visiting while preparing meals. The dining room table has four large comfortable chairs as well as the additional seating at the island bar. An optional leather bench (currently in the Master BR) is available if you would like to squeeze 2-3 more at the table as it has a built in leaf for expansion.
A private and charming outdoor space in back with a wood firepit and a propane heater make enjoying the cooler nights in Portland comfortable. The covered outdoor dining table with two barstools and a BBQ grill (charcoal with a propane coal starter) make dinner outside easy. There is a loveseat and two comfortable chairs which make this space perfect for your morning cup of coffee in the sunshine, or a glass of your favorite wine in the evening. The front porch is also private and a great way to watch the passing world go by. There is a bistro table for two, loveseat and extra metal chair to lounge in and watch the sunset. String lights that are dimmable by a remote control provide the perfect backlighting for both spaces.
As a reminder, the loft is located on top of a separate basement apartment and there will likely be other guests at the property. There are no shared spaces and guests will not have access to your space. Please note this home does not have washer/dryer access and does have two sets of stairs to access.
FREE street parking available.

The Neighborhood:
Buckman is a neighborhood in the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon. The neighborhood is bounded by the Willamette River on the west, E Burnside St. on the north, SE 28th Ave. on the east, and SE Hawthorne Blvd. on the south. The Buckman neighborhood is in a great location as it is in close proximity to some of Portland’s most hip and popular neighborhoods such as Kerns, Laurelhurst, and Belmont. Residents have plenty of independent retail, coffee, pub, and dining options just a stone’s throw away in most cases across several adjoining neighborhoods.
Buckman’s Hawthorne District is one of the most unique, and most popular areas in Southeast Portland. The area is known for its wonderfully restored Old Portland homes, liberal residents, and fun and funky feel. The street is lined with unique restaurants and shops and has a definite Portland-local flair. Local area standouts are Slow Bar, Rontoms, My Father’s Place, and the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub. The closest include:
- The Low Tide: A vegetarian Mexican restaurant/bar with great outdoor seating and lively bar scene inside. The nacho’s are HUGE! (Dogs allowed outside)
- Beer: A full bar that is open all day/evening and has a broad range of local draft selections (Dogs allowed inside and outside!) and is right next to Revolution Hall where there is a large dog park
- The Vern: A throwback dive bar with a great outdoor patio in back with personal, on table heaters (Dogs allowed outside)
- The Eastburn: Great brunch option and their food is very good (Dogs allowed outside which are picnic tables in front of the restaurant)
- The Screen Door: Iconic brunch stop in Portland with some favorites that include their Banana’s Foster French toast, Praline Bacon and Fried Chicken and Waffles (unsure about dog policy).
- Ken’s Artisan Pizza: Easily one of the best pizza and Italian restaurants in the city. No reservations and no outdoor space (sorry puppies) but their pizza, roasted market vegetables with whipped house made ricotta and a side order of their own amazing bread (you have to request…it isn’t on the menu) makes a little time away from the puppy well worth it.
Compared to most other areas of Portland, there is so much to eat and drink in Buckman that you can spend every day trying a new place and it will take you over a year to get to them all. Buckman is a foodie’s paradise, but it’s also home to a wide array of local microbreweries. In case you weren’t aware, Portland has more microbreweries per capita than any other city in the world, and it seems that almost all of them call Buckman home.
Getting Around:
To have an authentic Portland experience, there is no need to leave the neighborhood. Shopping, dining and entertainment are abundant. This is very urban area convenient for walking, biking or using public transportation. Portland also has a wonderful Bike Share BIKETOWN located all over Portland Metro. You could get around efficiently with an UBER. Public Transportation is close by with a bus stop only a few minute walk from the house. You can use the buses and the MAX light rail to get anywhere in Portland Metro. Great Coffee, dining and a grocery store blocks from the property. The 15 bus ($2.50 which is good for 2 hours) which is a 3 minute walk away at 20th and Morrison will take you to downtown or all the way to the NW district (and right to the Portland Timbers stadium) to try some of their fantastic restaurants including Bar West, Carina Lounge, North 45 Pub, St. Jack, and G-Love among many more.
