Summary:
This little historic home was built just before the turn of the century and was one of the early homes in Raton. If you have a larger group please consider booking the Casita and/ or the Second story as well! They sit right next door and are equally cool spots!
Thoughtfully updated to maintain its historic charm and add modern amenities. We've added fiber-optic wifi, mini split heat, and air, recessed LED lighting, a 5-burner gas range with oven, flat screen smart TV, and lots of original art!
The Space:
The Carriage house is a quaint little brick cottage built in the late 1800’s. It has been completely renovated with updated appliances, furniture and finishes. There is one king sized bed that is memory foam. Most of our guests absolutely love it, but it is definitely too hard for some.
It is still an old home! It squeaks, makes noises, doesn’t have perfectly plumb and level walls or floors. It’s small, it is also pretty amazing that it is still liveable 140 years after it was built.
Guest Access:
You will have private access to the entire 2 level home. There is a large grass yard that you are welcome to use and hang out in as well as a private patio with table and chairs for 4. We recently added a Blackstone flat top barbq grill that is also available for guest use!
The Neighborhood:
If you are staying here you are just a couple minutes walk from the Icehouse
BBQ restaurant. They have a great little patio with cold beer and good food. Many weekend evenings you can also catch some live music and even do a little dancing!
If you want some coffee (Monday-Friday 7am-4pm & Saturday 8am-2pm) head to Enchanted Grounds on Park Ave. Katie and crew will treat you great with espresso and a full menu.
If you're wanting some recreational fun-times, Climax Canyon Park is our Nationally awarded trail right in town! (801 Apache Ave) To get there, take 2nd street to Apache Ave, Apache will dead-end into the parking lot/trailhead. After you park your vehicle, walk through the gates to get to the actual trailhead. The short loop is 1.5 mile, or you can do both loops fro a 3 mile easy-moderate hike. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.
Another recreational opportunity is Sugarite Canyon State Park - there's a small day-use fee for motorized vehicles, and camping. Lake Maloya allows boating/kayaking/fishing and day-use. The trail system offers beautiful views, streams, and remote hiking opportunities. A fishing license is required if you're wanting to fish.
