It was extremely reasonable pricing, Rooms clean, beds comfy. Cable tv and wifi. Had pool and jacuzzi. Plenty of hot water for showers. Convenient location. Included a decent breakfast, but no eggs. Had a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, iron and hair dryer. Desk clerks were courteous and there was a night security guard. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was a lot of sketchy homeless people in the area, but VERY reasonably priced and rooms were clean and comfortable.

I was a little nervous coming to this property initially after reading some of the online reviews. They have taken a bit of a hit in the last month. I think what people need to have is a little perspective. If they want a five star hotel that is what they should book. If you’re booking the Howard Johnson “downtown” Sacramento, you’re looking for value and a deal. What I did notice was that the hotel itself is in very good condition and seems to be refreshing a lot of the rooms. My bathtub was a little sorry looking but everything else looked great. The free breakfast wasn’t spectacular, but it was acceptable. Again, if you’re paying around $100 a night, don’t expect a full hot meal. Reading the reviews online before I arrived, I was expecting the environment around the hotel to be a lot worse. Yes, there are homeless people in the area, but there are also homeless people downtown by the Hyatt Regency. It’s a problem that Sacramento is having right now, and I expect a lot of other travellers have similar problems in their home towns. The staff was generally pleasant and generally helpful. On the last day, I think I might’ve checked out with the hotel owner because he was extremely accommodating. In summary, if you are looking for a good deal and a decent place to stay in Sacramento, then this will do the trick.

Horrible Hotel

The stay was the worst ever. Customer service was awful and the hotel needs upgrades. The noise control was terrible you can hear everything, We got no sleep through out the night. The tub was lifting my the floor very unstable while showering. Too many homeless people around the area.

Staff was not friendly. We were on a road trip, didnt need much more than just a bed. People hanging around in the parkinglot drinking and lord knows what else. Property was very run down. Had to wake up the front desk person at 6am just to check out.

Dirty floor

I found that the room (particularly the floor) had not been thoroughly cleaned. I found a couple hairs and then I used a wipe to wipe the floor and the wipe was dirty and full of hairs! as if someone had a haircut in the room. I also found hair in the bathtub and a few around the sink. The floor by the door had a big sticky part as if something spilled and it hadn’t been mopped. Also, the bathroom smelled like pee! It grossed me out and made me wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the room. I stayed two nights and decided against moving rooms because it was an inconvenience to pack everything back up and move with my small child again. Also, the ice was very far away from my room and the hotel is pretty big so decided to do without ice. My key also stopped working after the first day and I had to go back to the office to get activated again, that was very annoying and inconvenient! Overall, I didn’t feel comfortable at this hotel.

Conflict in front lobby

There’s a security issue with the homeless population. During breakfast security is posted at the entrance of the lobby near the office which hosts the continental breakfast who essentially IDs you as an occupant. There was apparently a vagrant person that snuck through and started making breakfast. The housekeeper alerted security, security asked the person’s name and room number and when the guy couldn’t comply, a verbal and physical conflict escalated.
