Upon arrival at 4pm, we were unable to get into the unit. The host messaged us that "You will be given the front door access code when you arrive". But when the 10 of us showed up (my parents, siblings, spouses), there were no instructions, no host, and no message from the host. We messaged and called the host over and over while we sat in the driveway in our 3 cars. No response. We finally reached VRBO. The rep called the host repeatedly and finally reached her. She said she didn't check her VRBO messages because she has bad internet. She gave us the door code but did not apologize. She was a little defensive. The VRBO rep told me when she got off the phone that they've had to contact her multiple times before because of issues or disputes. Anyway it gets worse. Once we opened the door, we discovered that the entire downstairs of the home was infested with houseflies. I don't mean a few, I mean 60+ between the ones flying around and the dead ones on the kitchen floor (we counted 44). It was disgusting and clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. We closed off that part of the house which meant that instead of 6 bedrooms, we had 4. Instead of 4 bathrooms, we had 2. It was crowded and miserable. The rest of the house looked like it had been cleaned by teenagers. There was dust and dirt everywhere, smudges on the walls, all the dishes needed to be cleaned before use. The whole rental experience was pretty bad. This person should not be allowed to host on any platform ever.
