First of all, let me say that the little cabin was absolutely wonderful. It was just big enough for our needs and had a pool table and foosball table for entertainment, along with reasonably fast wifi. The balcony and the accompanying view were both great. The provided grill worked well and we cooked some good meals there. Lastly, whoever did the tile work in the two bathrooms was a real artist. Even the drive up to the place was an adventure with the curvy mountain roads and a full size truck!
Now the reason for the low rating.
We had no power and substantial damage to our town in Louisiana from hurricane Ida in September of 2021. We had existing reservations (for Labor Day weekend - the storm happened the Sunday night prior) so we evacuated to Florida until Tuesday September 7th, when our reservation ran out. At that time we contacted friends at home and heard that we would be without power until at least Friday the 17th. So I booked this cabin from the 7th until the 17th. On the morning of Thursday the 9th (we had arrived late Tuesday night, so were only there two nights at this point) I found out that we had power back at my house and that we would be allowed back into the area. I contacted the property manager, told them of this development and asked if we could cut our visit short. Since it was still early in the morning, I told her that we could be out of the place by noon and that I would even be willing to pay up to Monday so she could get the cleaners in and possibly rent it again for the weekend. She refused to accommodate us or even to give us a credit for unused days. Since I wanted to get at least some use of the place for my money we stayed until Sunday before we headed home. However, I still had to 'eat' the cost for the remaining nights. In their defense, the listing did state that it was 'non-refundable' due to it being a last minute reservation. I would think, though, that extenuating circumstances such as ours (that could be proven with the use of Google maps and an online hurricane tracker - not to mention the photos of our neighborhood) would warrant at least a little bit of leeway. Suffice it to say, despite how perfect the little place was, we will not be going back again.
