The Hyatt name has a reputation of upscale facilities and excellent service, and our recent visit to the Vilano Beach/St. Augustine location mostly confirmed this.
We found professional, friendly, and helpful front desk service but varying levels of service from the parking valets. There is no free parking here, so expect to pay $25 per night, and the valets do retrieve your vehicle very quickly but also expect a tip. Help is not always offered with your luggage.
The breakfast bar has more offerings than most hotels that offer a free breakfast. We found French toast, sausage links, home fries, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, plus bagels, mini muffins, cold cereal, along with Starbucks coffee and Twining teas. Their kitchen staff is friendly and helpful, and the dining area was clean and comfortable.
Our disappointments: frayed and worn hall carpeting, paint peeling on the bathroom ceiling along with a derelict fan. No kitchen nook; just a tiny 'fridge and a one-cup coffeemaker. And you have to request a microwave. TV channels are a bit limited; no DVR.
WATCH YOUR STEP when you visit the balcony! It's too easy to trip over high sliding door track, and if you fall, your head can easily hit the ledge of the narrow balcony.
We love the large room size, lots of pillows, quality bed linens and comforter, black-out drapes and sheers, comfy sofa, huge shower with a powerful shower head, and plenty of fluffy towels.
Would we go back? We're undecided.
