About the Local Area

Dottie's Cottage and Arnie's Studio are located in the heart of St Ives. Whilst the street itself is quiet and tucked away it is just a short stroll from the shops, harbour, beaches and art galleries.

Spend time at the working harbour, where you can see the seals that visit. Take a fishing trip or a boat trip to seal Island or Godrevy lighthouse and maybe see some Dolphins along the way..... or maybe you prefer to sail. There is lots to do.

There is an array of restaurants to choose from but book up fast as they are ALL very popular. We'll leave details of a few of our favourites at the cottage for those of you who are new to town.

There are four golden beaches to choose from. Porthmeor beach is good for surfing and has life guards and a surf school through peak periods. The other beaches are more sheltered. Dog friendly beaches available year around, (please check for details as some are seasonal).

The art galleries draw many to St Ives. The Tate is probably the largest gallery in town and is found just 200m away from Dottie's Cottage and Arnie's Studio above Porthmeor beach. Artists are drawn to St Ives for its said 'special light'.

Walkers would be interested in the coastal paths offering spectacular scenery along the way. Northbound to Carbis bay is beautiful and suitable for most walkers. We have done this many times with our small children. South towards Zennor is beautiful but provides much more of a challenge!

There are many other attractions within easy reach of St Ives such as the Eden project and the Seal sanctuary.

What ever you choose to do during your stay you are sure to have a magical time in St Ives.

During your stay at this holiday home, you're just a quick walk from Harbour Sand. Features include free WiFi in public areas. The holiday home includes amenities such as a kitchen and 2 bathrooms.

  • Free Wi-Fi in some public areas
  • Steps from Harbour Sand and Salthouse Gallery

Smaller than it looks
Amazing location to porthmoer and town. I think more detail is needed on the location as ive not long had surgery on both knees which caused massive discomfort getging up the steep hill to carpark. the cottage is alot smaller than it looks. Dissapointed in the poor quality bathroom. Very scruffy and extremely small. The sofa is very dirty and stained which spoilt the cute cottage look of the lounge. The courtyard was a no go area due overgrown bushes and poor furniture. We had a lovely time but we wont stay it this particular property again.

Quaint cottage in great position but tired decor and needs a good clean!
Good communication with owner prior to arrival however no real communication once we arrived. Upon arrival, the decor was rather tired and tatty which was a shame but not the end of the day. The most disappointing thing was that the cottage had not been cleaned throughly. Floors and handrails were filthy. Sofa was stained. Bath plug was full of hair. There was bindweed growing through into the kids bedroom through the wall. The patio area had not been tended for a long time and there was a rotten rocking chair with a pile of dead weeds left on it! Arnie’s studio smelt very damp so we didn’t use it for the whole of the stay. It’s such a shame as the location is great and the building itself has so much potential!

Location, location, location
Excellent, almost idyllic, location. A beautiful listed property with separate suite ideal for a couple of older child. Owner was responsive via the Vrbo app, answering questions fairly promptly. We did find that the outsourced cleaning was not very well done, with an old sock and a used towel down the side of one of the beds, but otherwise, the property is in excellent condition. Really good facilities in the kitchen, but fridge is unsurprisingly small, yet perfectly manageable if shopping every other day or eating out.

Fantastic
Absolutely amazing stay. I knew the general area of the property from pre-research so found it in no time at all. Not ideal for anyone with mobility issues, but it is a very central and convenient location for St Ives. Property is straight out of a postcard, traditional and quirky due to its age. Fully equipped kitchen and bright fresh bedrooms. Use of the small garden area upstairs was beautiful - so many bumble bees and flowers! We met Sarah next door within minutes of arriving, she was lovely and helped us with information - she showed us the downstairs apartment which we didn’t realise we could use! Amazing! 2 of us stayed and we had more than enough room, we feel this was a bargain given location and facilities. We absolutely want to stay again ASAP. Thank you Vicki!

Holiday in St Ives
Wonderful holiday in St Ives staying at the cottage which was right in the centre of town. The main accommodation had everything we needed and our teenagers enjoyed their own space in the studio. The next door neighbour, who I think works with the owner, was on hand to offer help, advice and tips on the local area, travel, restaurants etc. We will definitely be back in St Ives. ☀️

Dotties and Arnies
Good location to access beaches, harbour and town. Quiet street with friendly neighbour. We had the whole property and found entrance to Arnies is shared access with flat next door and very compact. Could do with a refresh in both properties but suited our family visi on this occasion.

Lovely house, great location! I'd read all reviews and understood the quirksof this being an older property. We did wonder if dehumidifiers would help in the downstairs flat though to combat the damp smell? Noting that, would be happy to stay again!

Loved the cottage and location though as we arrived in the dark it took us two hours to find it. For the first night did not realise we had two areas. It has rained every day but we have had a most enjoyable week and would return. We met the neighbour she was lovely as well. Thank you.

Cosy Cottage
We had a fabulous holiday in Dottie's cottage & Arnies studio...the weather was only bad on one day, this didn't bother us as the church had a violin concert on plus loads to do as it was the September Festival. One thing as others have mentioned Arnies studio has an over whelming smell of damp. This gets into clothing & luggage...so maybe pack some febreze!....The lady next door is lovely & said should we need anything to give her a knock....lovely friendly street right on the harbour.....we will certainly book again...highly recommended......thank you Vicki your communication is marvellous :)

The only problem...
It’s a lovely place...all you need to know is that it is a little hard to get to... the walk down from the carpark is quite steep and that the internet/cellphone reception is temperamental... the front of the House close to the entry door will be the best spot to catch the internet😂 The owner was great communicating with us... and when we asked for a French press so we could enjoy a cup of coffee it was provided the very next day...thank you🙏

What can i say, Dotties Cottage was so beautiful snug and evetyhig you need amenities wise.
We booked to stay at Dotties Cottage From Friday 2nd May to Monday 6th 2019. The accommodation was everything it described and even came with welcome Milk coffee, tea and biscuits which were delicious. The cottage was very cute and snug and big enough for our Family of 4. My mother also came with us and stayed in Arnies studio below this was also fantastic and came with its own amenities, the only 1 thing I would say is Arnies Studio could do with a little Mini Fridge so you can have some milk and butter for a coffee or toast when not in the main cottage. The children absolutely loved this cottage and want to come again the outside area is such a added bonus we managed to sit outside and have tea and cake in the sunshine, and the children played out their for ages. I would defiantly recommend to stay here and the location is so perfect and close to everything. I will be booking again for next year. Loved it.

We have enjoyed a wonderful Easter week at Dotties Cottage and Arnie's Studio. We stayed five people with our pet, a Golden Retriever. The house is cosy, well preserved, fully equipped and well located in the fishing district of St Ives. The climate was very variable; the first few days, rainy and cold, became hot and sunny at the end of the week. Electric heating was enough to heat the house, studio included. The last days we could enjoy the garden on the terrace full of bells and green plants. I would suggest reading the other reviews from a positive point of view because they are useful. The shower in Arnie's studio worked very well. In our case, the sheets and towels were clean and white. Parking was not always easy, but we found that there used to be free space at St Ives RFC, not far from the cottage. I highly recommend Dotties Cottage and Arnie's Studie if you want to enjoy a quiet family holiday in a town full of character such as St Ives. Thank you very much, Vicky!

Perfect location
Great location in centre of town. Pretty cottage nicely decorated. Let down by tiny fridge and the most ridiculous hot water system which in desperate need of a pump. Bedding in need of replacement, pillows have indiacribable stains and no protectors! But a lovely comfortable stay and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful and unique St Ives.

Great location in authentic Cornish home
We just loved St Ives and Cornwall more generally. This cottage is in a wonderful location , though a little hard to find for new-comers with our GPS , but once we found it , we just loved the location, just a minute's walk to everything. Really lovely kitchen.

A lovely cottage
Dottie’s Cottage is a great place to stay in St Ives, a great location near to everthing but very quiet. The only negative thing was the parking, we had to get all of our luggage from Barnoon car park down a steep cobbled stone hill, so Cottage may not be suitable for elderly or disabled guests. The cottage was very quaint with a well equipped kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay.

Dottie's cottage, cosy and in the perfect location.
Cosy cottage but with some issues. I am not one for complaining but, feel that these points should be brought to attention! Unfortunately, the hot water supply to the bathroom was not really adequate. A trickle of water from the hot tap to the basin, and only slightly more to the bath. However, I did manage to set the electric shower to deliver a reasonable amount at a reasonable temperature. There is an awful smell from sewage waste, which to be fair, I think is actually coming from the next door property (no 21). The bedrooms would benefit from some bedside lamps, and our duvet cover in the front bedroom had some dried blood stains on the outside. I feel if these issues are addressed then Dotties's cottage could be a lovely relaxing place to stay. Its location was perfect for exploring St.Ives.

Small and sweet house in a lovely location
Overall our stay was lovely! The house is a little awkward to get to for unloading/loading, but that might be less of a concern over a long stay, we were only there for a weekend. As others have mentioned, the hot water pressure in the only bathroom (in the main house) is really poor, but the shower is very good. The towels are stained, but cleaned. My guess is the host does these themselves, rather than using a cleaning service. The welcome hamper was lovely and had everything we needed for washing up etc, which is always useful. There wasn't a coffee machine which the description on here suggested, but we didn't need it. There were 4 of us sharing the main house and it was comfortable, 6 might be a bit of a squeeze, especially with only one bathroom! The extra studio is a real bonus, though! My only gripe is the internet. I specifically booked somewhere with wi-fi as I needed to finish some work the first day we arrived, unfortunately the house does not have it's own wi-fi. The owner has been kind enough to share her BT WiFi password in order to use the BT WiFi with FON infrastructure, however the signal was too weak to stay connected most of the time. You can access it upstairs, with reasonable success, but not from the living/dining/kitchen room. All in all, I'd stay here again, but I'd bring a WiFi repeater with me to amplify the signal.

Couldn't be better located
This property is literally as close to the sea as you can get right in the centre of the town but tucked just away so you don't get any noise from the shops or pub's. For a family visiting it's literally perfect with parking just at the top of the hill which made getting suitcases and buggies to and from the property relatively hassle free. Not the most spacious property but more than made up for it with the location.
