Prepare to relax as soon as you step inside this spacious 2 bedroom, 1 bath country cottage with beautiful views minutes within downtown Steelville. Viola’s Cottage has been newly renovated to include modern conveniences while maintaining original, country charm.

Viola's cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway, family trip or travel with friends. The cottage overlooks our family farm and has fabulous views within minutes of downtown Steelville. You will enjoy beautiful, panoramic views of the farm, barn and hayfields. Boasts large yard, porch, deck and fire pit.

To begin, enjoy the complimentary coffee & tea bar. Relax on the deck, complete with new dining set, covered porch or outdoor picnic area. If you are seeking an escape to the river, it’s only a short hike or drive (.3 miles) down the hill to river access. Relax in the sun or shade and let the rippling sounds of the river drift your cares away. You may envision casting a line or skipping rocks. Bring your shade cover, lawn chairs and relax on the Meramec the river.

Inside the cottage, our kitchen/dining room is spacious with gorgeous views of the property. The kitchen contains natural wood cabinets and a full set of stainless-steel appliances, including dishwasher, microwave, toaster, toaster oven & garbage disposal. You will have plenty of counter space to prepare meals & snacks as well as being stocked with what you may need to cook a meal. Outdoor dining is available on the deck or under our covered picnic area, Edison/Bluetooth string lights with speakers provided and charcoal grill. Entertainment provided; Mini cornhole and mini washer games as well as many board and card games.

At days end, enjoy your cozy fireplace and settle into your leather couch. Enjoy your favorite movie on the 50” Smart TV with soundbar. As night approaches you will slumber in your spacious bedroom. Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed, Full size Futon, Leather high back chairs with matching glass top table and marble top nightstand. Bedroom 2 has a Queen bed, desk & chair, reading table and two chairs. Bedroom fans provided. Black out shades provide you with the best sleep of your life and ensure you wake up refreshed. Each bedroom is set up for remote working if you require it. The living room has a full-size sofa sleeper.

Linens, towels and basic soaps are provided.

The only thing you need when you visit our cottage is food, charcoal & lighter fluid (if needed).

Steelville is nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and is on the Meramec River. The City's website says it's the perfect setting for outdoor recreational activities. They mention hiking, canoeing, and enjoying the spectacular views. That's before they get into Steelville's quaint Main Street which the city promises will take you back to a more gracious and elegant time. The Meramec River in Missouri Is the Perfect escape.

Stormy Weekend Stay
We stayed at Viola's Cottage for our annual rally race trip. Upon arrival, we discovered there was no power. Just as we were about to reach out to the host, Peggy and Jon arrived to let us know that power was out in the area due to high winds. They had provided us with lanterns and flashlights to get us through until the power was restored. They also gave us access to the basement of the house as severe weather was expected. No power also meant a limited supply of water from the well, so we opted to eat dinner at a restaurant in Steelville. We made it back to the house just as a severe storm hit the area. We took refuge in the basement during a brief tornado warning. Once things calmed down, we all went to bed. We woke up to a chilly house still without power, so we headed to Salem for day two of the race. We got notice from our host at about 11:00 AM that the power had been restored. We still had a full day of activities but were extremely happy to hear we would be able take showers once we got back. We didn't get much of a chance to enjoy the amenities of the house due to the storms. However, I will say the the beds were comfortable, and there was an ample supply of towels, washcloths, and hangers which is not always the case with a rental home. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and well stocked. Peggy and Jon were gracious host and went above and beyond to help us ride out the storms. Hopefully, we will have a chance to stay again under better circumstances.

Attention to detail!
Adorable, clean, and comfortable place with wildlife right there. The host has really gone above and beyond to make your stay seem as if you are staying at grandma's cottage or home away from home with the extras provided. It was also very clean and comfortable. Great place for a family or weekend getaway and have all of the comforts from home.

This cottage was the perfect spot for a weekend with my friends. It has everything you could want at your fingertips. We were just a short drive to the Wildwood Lodge for dinner and live music. The town, the hosts, everyone was so friendly. We hope to go back and stay longer

We stayed two nights and loved it! It was clean, peaceful, comfortable, close to the river and close to Steeleville. Great attention was paid to all the details to provide everything guests might need during their stay. The bed was really comfortable which is always important to us, the bedding was great, the towels were thick and fluffy, and all the decor was so tasteful. The rooms are spacious and the only negative for us was that there was only one bathroom. We thought about inviting friends to join us but were hesitant because of the one bathroom. My husband and I would definitely stay here again!

Everything you need in one place.
Conveniently located next to a beach with shallow water for kids to play in and literally a two minute drive to town. What sets this property apart is the fact that you won’t be spending hundreds of extra dollars on impulse buys when you go out to buy the little items here and there that you forgot. If you are on a budget, bring your own food and drink to cook, the host provides everything else. Down to the little things like a match or plastic bag. We will definitely be coming back next year!

Summer Weekend Getaway
This property was the perfect spot for a weekend float getaway! Check in was easy (and ready before expected!), and the cabin and property were lovely. We had fun walking down to the river and using the bonfire and lawn games. Everything was super well labeled in the cabin, and we enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine! We were a party of 6 and had plently of space for all of us. Would definitely recommend this spot for a trip to Steelville!

What a great Gem!
I took my boyfriend floating for his birthday. We stayed Thurs to Sun. Check in/out was simple. The owners were extremely quick to respond to any questions. It is right in between Cuba and Steelville. We floated thru Birds Nest. They will pick you up at the house and drop you back off too! So for the property, it is beautiful. We sat on the front porch for hours just watching the wildlife and relaxing. The river access is not really walking distance since it is a mile down a gravel hill. I wouldn't want to carry a cooler up and down it. But it is convenient and a very short drive. Nice little spot to swim! The inside is just as it is pictured. It is an old farmhouse, but it is updated and lovely. I love that they have labels on everything in the kitchen and around the house. so much easier to find everything. And they do have everything! The beds were comfy and so were the couches. the kitchen is huge! the only issue we had was the Wi-Fi was pretty slow since you are in the country, so we couldn't watch a movie without buffering. But we weren't there to watch TV. We enjoyed our stay immensely and we will be back! Thanks Peggy!

Above and beyond our expectations!!
It is impossible to name all the things we loved but I will name a few (the little things indoors: like seasonings, ziploc bags, a bottle of wine for our arrival, the cleanliness, seasonings, a crockpot, all things needed to prepare a meal) outdoors: the firewood/pit/ chairs provided, the beauty, the deer, close to the river. This home was more than we expected and one of the best we've rented! We will 100% stay here and recommend it to our friends! Thanks so much for helping our weekend be so relaxing! Amazing!!
We choose this cottage because we were going on vacation. The rooms are bigger than the pictures and there is plenty to do! My family had everything we needed and more, they provide so many useful things that you would otherwise forget to pack or have to buy. Peggy and Jon were so sweet, available to answer any questions. The area is beautiful and so is the house! We stayed for a little over a week and it didn't feel like enough time! Highly recommend and will be booking again in the future!

All The Little Things
Our stay at Jon & Peggy’s place was excellent. The location was close to town and exactly as described. The place is quiet and I would recommend it for families, couples, and friends, because of the proximity to Steelville, Cuba, and the Meramec River. The bedrooms are spacious and there is a good size closet to hang clothes. The living room had a Smart TV for all your viewing needs. Kitchen was well-equipped and spacious. Very easily could have prepped a family meal. We felt comfortable here and would book this place again. Jon & Peggy’s place is extremely clean, and the furniture was modern and functional. They were very responsive and welcoming. They went above a beyond making us feel at home. They even had roasting sticks and fire wood ready for the fire pit.

This property and cottage was well maintained! The inside was renovated with all modern conveniences and still had a lot of original character left with the house. It was decorated in a country inviting vibe. The cottage was fully stocked with all of the basics plus lots of thoughtful extra items/amenities. The bed is super comfortable and everything was spotless! Peggy and Jon were excellent hosts and very accommodating. We will definitely be back. It was the perfect romantic get away!
