St Johns Ridge - Heart of Valle Crucis - Hot Tub- Firepit - River and Mountain Views

In the heart of historic Valle Crucis, NC, nestled on St. John's Ridge, this secluded log cabin sports a stunning view of the Watauga river meandering through a green valley, bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and is just minutes away from the historic Mast General Store, close to Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain and three ski areas.

During the cold months, guests can use the indoor fireplace. The home has smart TVs, so guests may sign into their own streaming accounts. In warmer months, guests can build a fire in the fire pit, outdoors under the stars. The hot tub can be used year round and is under its own deck-side gazebo. The decks are furnished with rocking chairs, tables, a porch swing and a hammock. Guests can cook outdoors on the gas grill.

Time for bed? This cabin boasts three bedrooms plus a bonus loft with a set of Twin bunkbeds. The top and lower floors each have a King bedroom, and the main floor has a Queen bedroom.

Local activities include fishing, kayaking, skiing, hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, festivals, antiquing and Tweetsie Railroad, to name a few. Historic St. John's Church built in 1862 is a short walk from the cabin. The Watauga river runs in front of the property and can be accessed on foot as well. Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, also built in the 1800s, is a few miles away and is a must see for guests.

Whatever your pleasure, make time to experience St Johns Ridge and its stunning views today!

Weekend Getaway
We came up for the weekend for a snow tubing trip. The weekend was great and the house and location was absolutely perfect for us! It has beautiful views, and just the right amount of space! It’s in a great location to everything you need and want to do! (Shopping/ attractions/ tubing / skiing) Everything was very clean and tidy - we look forward to coming back in the future!

Great stay at this location
We truly had a good time staying at this location. The forwarning of the steep driveway definitely needs to be emphasized on bc it was super steep but it worked out. But the overall stay was very relaxing and peaceful. The home is so beautiful and is in such a good location. The view was one of my favorite things, especially the wildlife (deer) that just walk around with no concern. I would recommend doing some more lighting or decoration in the downstairs hallway area BC it was konda sketchy at first, but other than that, our stay was perfect! The process was a breeze and so convenient for our travels.

Winter Get Away
The property is tucked away over looking a beautiful valley. Once we arrived we went into the cabin, we did find that it wasn't cleaned upon arrival. We contacted the property management company (after hours). They asked us to go have dinner on them and by the time we got back the place would be cleaned. Unfortunately, (due to weather) when we returned it still wasn't cleaned and the cleaners had just arrived. I wish I got the cleaners names because they were really sweet and tried to get it cleaned as fast as they could, as it was freezing raining outside and we were unable to enter the cabin while it was being cleaned. We weren't able to use the hot tub as it wasn't cleaned also but once we got into the cabin we enjoyed it. The view was AMAZING! Later we were able to discuss our concerns with Blue Ridge Rentals and Amy W. was amazing. She listened to our concerns and made our case for us which she had to present to higher ups, she was able to make things right. We really appreciated having Amy on our side. In all honesty, if we didn't have any issues with the cleaning and we were able to use the hot tub everything would of been prefect. It even snowed while we were there for our prefect winter get away.

Iced over steep driveway nightmare, cabin not really assessable due to conditions
We understand that the whole winter storm scenario was not an optimal situation but some proactive work on the steep long driveway prior to our arrival would have been a lifesaver. The first person of our group who arrived before us had already gotten stuck prior to our arrival, driveway was a sheet of ice under snow) this is a lifted 4x4 2500 diesel on 37” tires. So when we arrive a little later only to suffer the same fate even with recommended tire chains trying to turn around and trying not to slide into mailboxes and cabin accross the street. So we had back track to a store parking lot a couple miles away and regroup had to convince group to push through the misery instead of going back to town and getting a hotel room since we were paying for cabin regardless. So we try to hike up this steep grade of a driveway on a sheet of ice literally falling on our faces trying to drag our luggage up, which was absolutely awful. We reached out the next day via email because we couldnt get anyone on phone on Saturday after we left out. We appreciate y’all plowing the center of driveway but we still had to walk because it was still ice where our tires needed to grip. Walk was a little easier but still awful. View was pretty and cabin was cute but if there is ice and snow I would definitely pass on this one unless you are assured driveway is properly prepped. I guess our sentiment was if you knew in advance you had guest coming something would have been done instead of nothing..

I would recommend it.
We had a good time staying at this property. They gave us starter stuff to start with like toilet paper, dish soap, laundry pods, dish pods, a few trash bags so we didn’t have to buy any. The hot tub was nice because it was covered so while it rained there we could still enjoy the hot tub. The beds were very comfy. The view was beautiful! There were some Christmas decorations on the mantle not put up yet and some areas I could tell didn’t get cleaned often, but overall the cabin was clean, and well equipped.

We were expecting a bigger and cleaner place.
The property was in a cozy location. However, the pictures online made it seem much bigger than it actually was. The property was also not very clean. There was dust everywhere. We did enjoy the hot tub and wondered views of the mountains.

Great Cabin in Great Location
The cabin was nicely laid out and super cozy! We loved having an indoor wood burning fireplace plus an outdoor fire pit. The views of mountains and farm land made it a bit unique. The vicinity to Boone, Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain, and Valle Crucis made it excellent for family activities.

Beautiful views and a fun space
We really enjoyed staying here on St. John’s Ridge. There were 2 families, 4 adults, ; kids and thus property was great. Pros- the space was perfect to hang out with one another, kitchen is well stocked, mattresses are really comfortable, is was clean and prepared, there’s lots of games and beautiful views. We really enjoyed our time here and coffee and drinks on the decks. Cons- a super steep drive way, we were fine and I think 90% of people visiting would be ok, but it’s important to know it’s a steep graded drive way. Upon our arrival the hot tub was not working, Blue ridge rentals were super helpful but it was disappointing to start off. Overall it was a 5 star trip and we hope to return again!

Everything about our stay was wonderful. The only disappointment was the hot tub was not working and we really looked forward to that. We chose this cabin in part because of the covered hot tub. Kitchen was well appointed, beds very comfortable, cozy fireplace and fantastic view! We had a memorial stay

Anniversary & Birthday Getaway for two
The property is exactly as pictured and has a welcoming cozy feel the minute you enter! The kitchen was really well stocked (I way overpacked). With COVID going on we cooked and grilled more than we normally would do on vacation, which was great with the amenities on hand. We did truly love the nearby restaurant ‘Over Yonder’ though! The covered decks & view were amazing and there is total privacy with this rental. Coffee in the morning and wine at night on the wonderful deck(s) was amazing even when it rained (and it did) it was heavenly! We love the area and this is a great home base to explore from and also relax enough to make this cabin ‘the entertainment’ too. We enjoyed fires in the fireplace (you can request wood be delivered) mornings and evenings. We normally don’t return to the same place twice but this cabin will definitely be the exception!

weekend get away
overall the property was beautiful. The property is older but has all of the amenities you would need. Word of advise, the one set of stairs are very steep and once you get the top you have gone up three floors. The mattress downstairs needs to be replaced or a pillow topper needs to be added. The views to the meadows down below are awesome. We plan on coming back early summer. BUT BE AWARE, if you travel during the winter there is no way to get to the top if there is a major snow event without 4 wheel drive.. We have vacationed a lot in the mountains and this was one of the steepest grades I have encountered. The trash outside was overflowing upon our arrival, and some critters helped themselves. We did pick up some of the trash. I notified the staff at Blueridge and they said that someone would be up to take care of this. That never happened. The grill, which we did not use is huge and very well maintained. The furniture is adequate but old. The double recliner was broken but remained comfortable. The hot tub was in a covered gazebo which made it awesome. The hot tub was very well maintained.
