Unprofessionally managed
Kalaonda Plemmirio is a family business, in the worst possible sense of the concept. The owning family rarely interacts with the guests, but the vast number of family members and relatives make good use of the facilities and make the guests feel that they are unwanted visitors at someone's private residence. The outdoor area is beautiful but the rooms barely meet two-star standards. The staff - the hired employees - are friendly and exceptionally helpful. They are the only highlight of the premise. In the last evening we stayed at the hotel there was a big wedding reception. The hotel management had not even considered that perhaps the guests need to park somewhere too. We were compelled to leave the car outside the parking lot, as there was no staff member to help. At about midnight the management tried to compel us to move the car in order to avoid a fine. The night took even more awkward turn when - at about 4.30 AM - a male hotel employee opened the door and entered the room where my mother was sleeping alone. He left quickly after realizing she had woken her up. In the morning the staff apologized for the incident. The official explanation was that the man assumed the room being empty and wanted to check that the air conditioning was turned off. That was a memorable end for our stay. Cannot really recommend this premise to any discerning traveler. After this experience I will take all the Financial Times How to Spend It recommendations with a hint of salt.
