My accommodation in Toronto was fine. I had no issues with the room I was ultimately given. It was clean and had everything I expected based on the description.
However, my check-in was not a great experience. I was supposed to be emailed details for self check-in one to two hours in advance of my arrival. I never got that. I had to call and have them send it to me via WhatsApp. Then, the building access code didn't work. It took a few messages back and forth to get that sorted. Then, the room I was assigned hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. I followed up with the local number I had and was told I had to contact another number in the Philippines to get action on having the room in Toronto cleaned. Someone called me nearly an hour later from a Texas-based number offering to move me to another room in the same complex. Dealing with numbers in Canada, the Philippines and the US left me all very skeptical about whether I was being scammed. Ultimately, it all worked out. It wasn't a scam, but it was all rather confusing and took 3 hours to sort out before I got settled into my room for the weekend.
