The room smelled of mold to the point we almost left without staying. The bed was on the second floor and small bathroom on the first floor with very tight stairs to get from one floor to the other. I do not remember ever being told about this unfortunate room set up. We were then told they would not be opening the restaurant that night (probably to few guests that night) even though the website said they were open. We were told the two restaurants across the street would be open and they were very good. Neither one was open. Finally found a very nice restaurant in a small town after driving around for 45 minutes. Owners were not very helpful.
Our room in a castle tower was very nice. It was not the smallest room that we have stayed in, but it wasn't you either. The bed was comfortable the experience was great.
Two days spent there were very pleasant and the owners most friendly and helpful in all ways. We had a “flat” to ourselves in the castle . Only inconvenience was the bathroom on the ground floor and bedroom
The lady who greeted us at the front was clearly displeased with our arrival. Our initial interaction with whom I am assuming is the owner or manager (She has short hair) was questionable, she lacked any knowledge of any taxi services from Fiorenzuola to Castello di Vigoleno and proceeded to tell us there is not bus service to the hotel, when in fact there is a public bus service that drops you off there. Once we arrived this woman gave off a feeling as though she were doing my partner and me a favor by having us there. Pretty much any further interaction with her during our stay was unpleasant, she treated us very coldly compared to others. It is possible that she had done so because my partner approached her speaking English, however that’s the only reason we could come up with.
Aside from the awful hotel service the locals were extremely kind, most especially the bus driver who brought us to and from the station (He didn’t even charge us). The castle hotel was quite nice, save for the dirty walls in our room (We stayed in Gialla), definitely a great place to take pictures otherwise. The local food was also pretty decent.
One of the most unique hotels that I have ever staid at. The property is very well taken care of. It was like staying in a museum - simply fascinating. There is nothing to do in the area, but the hotel is itself the destination.
This was something out of a dream for us, much better than we even expected! We reserved one of the "Superior Suites". This is a REAL CASTLE, not some replica. It is way off the beaten path in the countryside on the top of a mountain. Very interesting drive to get there, and the view from the castle is amazing! Surrounded by incredible vineyards dotting the landscape and hillsides all the way. After entering the castle gate, you enter into a real medieval town that has little shops and restaurants, even a chapel. Everything is original, dating back centuries, and still functioning today! Of course it has electric now, and there are some other modern conveniences, like running water and modern bathrooms. This is only opened recently as a hotel on one section of the castle. The rest of the castle is open to public and has tours, etc. It is an experience of a lifetime for anyone who wants to experience staying in a real medieval castle!

Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort
The room looked more promising in the pictures
The small village inside the castle walls is amazingly beautiful and we enjoyed walking around it, the room however was a bit disappointing. It looked so much more appealing on the website.
The floor was dusty with some of the tiles loose. Wooden window shutters partially broken. Very dim lighting. Our room was the one watching the entrance to the main yard. The bed was ok, breakfast - continental. There is a restaurant outside the castle walls, which is quite nice for an evening meal. We were expecting to walk the castle walls after breakfast, but was told by the owners this option is closed for monday mornings, it would be nice if they had told us this when we checked in on sunday. Overall - worth staying if you are really into castles.
Amazing medieval castle and walled village. Very remote and beautiful and scenic drive to get there. Rooms are located near the entrance so it was very noisy when vehicles or people would enter and leave the castle. The staff and others are very friendly and accommodating and helpful.
This was an especially fun experience as we traveled around Italy. The couple who managed the castle were most accommodating and so good to us. The views from the castle are of beautiful agricultural farmlands and the castle itself was a treat to explore which we were encouraged to do.
Wonderful characteristic property. Nice bedroom with four poster bed. Beautiful bedding Ate in restaurant. Exquisite food. Plentiful breakfast. Staff charming and helpful. Would stay again.
What a unique experience to stay in a castle! Our room in the guard house was very clean and quiet with a wood beam ceiling, a comfortable bed, and a large bathroom. The included breakfast was tasty with friendly service.
We loved exploring around the little village inside the castle walls and visiting the tower museum. Dinner at the restaurant across the street was delicious and well-priced; try the fried polenta and fried bread appetizer.
Note, the roads up to the castle were steep, with switchbacks and very narrow parts. Our little rented Volkswagen made it just fine, but be sure to arrive and depart in full light.
It was like stepping into a Game of Thrones episode, but without the scheming villains. We had a delightful dinner in their dining room with carefully prepared, locally sourced foods at an amazingly reasonable price. Service at both dinner and the breakfast included with the stay was friendly, professional, and informative. The only downside of the experience was that reaching our room required navigating nearly 50 rough stone steps outdoors along the Castello wall. We would have chosen a different room or stayed elsewhere if all of their rooms are accessed this way--the website should address this. For younger guests, I am sure it is part of the adventure.
