The owner (Joaquim) communicated well with us ahead of the visit, and accommodated our early arrival, allowing us to put our bags in one of the rooms and providing keys whilst the apartment was still being prepared, which meant we could go off and enjoy exploring on our first day.
The apartment is superbly equipped, with everything you need on hand if you want to have evenings in, cooking for yourself - plenty of crockery, glassware, cutlery, cooking equipment, utensils etc. Very much a homely feel too, with plenty of artwork and Joaquim's own amazing sculptures and ornaments using the local stone.
The rooms are spacious, and the bed arrangements provide variety for different sized groups. Plenty of space too, with a living room and adjoining dining area, and two good sized balconies for sitting out, storing beach gear, and drying towels, laundry etc.
Good sized bathrooms, with plenty of hot water, and one with a washing machine - very useful. TV and satellite channels in living area and main bedroom upstairs.
There are two specific areas with air conditioning - the main bedroom upstairs, and the living area downstairs. We were there during a very hot spell (up to 37 deg C) and found it perfectly comfortable - having the windows open/curtains closed during the day, and the air con working in the evening to cool down the whole apartment.
Olhos has a lovely beach, and as a resort is much, much smaller/quieter than Albufeira and Villamoura, along the coast in either direction. There are still plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from though - lovely food, good value, and friendly service.
The apartment location is ideal - the beach is less than 5 minutes from the door, as is the well stocked Intermarche supermarket, in the other direction. In between the two are Olhos' main shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. We favoured the ones closer to the beach. The municipal market (next to Intermarche) is worth looking into for fruit, veg, fish and meat.
The apartment is on a quieter residential street, with a small cafe along the road, and the post office opposite.
The apartment is on the first and second floors of a small building, so there are steps to negotiate internally and externally - but unless that presents a problem for someone in your group, I would absolutely recommend as an excellent place to stay.
We will return.
