Lovely place to decompress in serene settings. This 400-year old structure is a pleasure to see and stay in. The 16th generation young man is also a pleasure to speak with. Mr. Ryu was extremely helpful.
A very lovely traditional house with a long history. It’s so peaceful and quiet just sitting outside our room overlooking a river, living out of a K drama. The property is very well run by a descendent of the Ryu clan. The owner, Seunghwan is a young gentleman who speaks excellent English, hospitable and has eye for details. We stayed for 2 nights and didn’t have a car. He drove us to the village upon check in and fetch us to the bus terminal upon check out. We enjoyed the daily traditional breakfast cooked by a Ajumma. Although there is no en-suite, the toilet is very modern and each guesthouse has their own dedicated toilet. Do stay here with an open mind, immersed yourself in the josun era and enjoy the simplicity.
Very beautiful property clean very friendly and caring owners was picked up and dropped off at nearby bus station since it is only accessible by taxi or private car really enjoyed my stay there
The only slight disappointment was my en suite was not attached to my room had to walk about 30m outside to use the loo not too good in the middle of the night . No food available nearby but manager drove me and picked me up as required Thankyou
If you want to experience the life in the 1500's, this is the place. It's very peaceful. The traditional breakfast is very tasty and the staff is very accommodating.
Do not miss this place! We had a magical one night stay at this 600 year old traditional Korean property. The property has been in the owners family for 16 generations, but every effort has been make to make sure it is comfortable for 21st century visitors while maintaining a traditional environment. The futon beds were very comfortable, and the Korean breakfast was varied and delicious.
We had an amazing time in Okyeon Pavillion. The room was nice and warm and the beds were comfortable. It was serene and quiet with great views of the Hahoe village. You can easily hike the Buyondae cliff or go down the river path outside the property. Breakfast was a lovely spread of a traditional korean meal with fruits and tea. The hosts were kind and hospitable. Seunghwan even offered to pick us up and drop us off the village and gave us very helpful tips. He also brought us to a korean bbq place just outside the property where we had a great meal. We truly enjoyed the experience and would love to stay here again.
The rooms next to mine, which were Korean, were occupied by Japanese and Caucasian people, respectively. When I have to tell foreigners about Korea's traditional houses, I can recommend Okyeonjeongsa without shame.
This place is very special. Staying here was the highlight of our trip.
This 500 year old pavilion was built by a former prime minister and a Confucian scholar for his retirement. I could imagine him sitting on the terrace, looking at Hahoe Village across the river. The beautiful old pine tree, breeze and chirping of birds took us back time to 500 year ago. This is a place to experience history, and it is worth putting up with a few minor inconvenience. (They actually had nice modern bathroom.)
The breakfast was very good with real hand painted porcelain and carefully made cutlery.
The friendly manager speaks English and he was very helpful with our requests.
