Little Harbor – A True Maine Escape

Nestled on the pristine shores of Bailey Island, this cozy yet rustic oceanfront cottage offers the ultimate Maine experience. Surrounded by bold surf and spectacular views from every window, the cottage overlooks what was once called "the most spectacular view in North America."

To the east and south, you’ll find sweeping open ocean vistas of Casco Bay, while to the west, the charm of Little Harbor unfolds and Ragged Island is just beyond the horizon. Whether you're dining inside, sunbathing on the spacious deck, or simply relaxing as the waves crash on the rocks below, the serene surroundings promise a deeply restful retreat.

The cottage comfortably sleeps four, with close proximity to scenic walking trails and public beaches. It’s just 25 minutes from the Maine State Music Theatre at Bowdoin College, local art galleries, and the Mere Creek Golf Club. For adventure seekers, there are charter fishing trips, kayak rentals, whale watching, and Casco Bay tours nearby.

Whether you choose to unwind on the deck or explore the beauty of the area, you’ll be captivated by the rolling waves, soothing surf, and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. For those who love Maine, or those experiencing it for the first time, this cottage offers a truly unforgettable escape.

Not worth it!
The view is what you pay for and that’s it. And it is an amazing view. But one I won’t see from this cottage ever again. It would be nice if the owners used the rental money they make to update all of the furniture, the couch and chair are both tiny and unbelievably uncomfortable, beds were AWEFUL. I’ve slept in more comfortable beds in cheap hotels. My husband couldn’t even sleep in the beds so he tried the pull out twin bed from the couch. It also was extremely uncomfortable AND broken. We rented in October. Our first day on arrival was cold and rainy. They had a tiny room heater plugged in when we got there. That did pretty much nothing! A woodstove that we could have used to warm up the cottage but no supplies to do so. We purchased that stuff at the closest Walmart the next day so we could at least be warm at this crappy uncomfortable cottage. The bathroom shower stall is horrid. Tiny, old, stained and when you showered you stood in 3-4 inches of water by the time you're done. After complaining we were offered a refund on a portion of the cost. I would never recommend this rental to a single person. We should have gotten a full refund.

Crashing waves. What more good you want?
The place was a perfect little haven. Right on the rocks surrounded by beautiful views on 2 sides. My favorite spot was out on the deck watching the distant lobster boats check their traps.

This is a splendid cottage. For those looking for comfort, privacy, beautiful vistas, and quiet days and nights, please consider Little Harbor. We found all of that here. As we live in the chaos of suburbia, the calm pace of Bailey Island suited us. Thank you Penny and Eric for your grace and hospitality.

Little Harbor
Absolutely fantastic! The cottage has 270 degree views of open ocean. The sunrise is beautiful. You can sit on the deck and watch the lobster boats and sailboats go by. You can also see ships going in and out of Portland. The night sky is something to not be missed. The cottage itself is perfect. We would say it is more for two or three people instead of four. It would be a bit snug with four. Number four person would have to sleep on the pullout couch. If you are into the big bathroom thing, you won't get it with Little Harbor. The bathroom is perfect for what needs to be done and that's it. The shower is low pressure but does the job. The wood stove was perfect for a small fire when it got chilly at night. The cottage was very clean when we arrived. There is plenty to do in the area if you get tired of sitting on the deck and watching the ocean. There is a great little gift shop within walking distance on the same road as the cottage. Get your lobsters at the dock in Mackerel Cove. For food, the Giant Steps Cafe is perfect. Morse's Cribstone restaurant is also very good. Stay away from Cook's. Casco Bay Ferry goes out for little tours of the area. Brunswick is just 20 minutes up the road. You can get groceries and other things you might need at Cook's Corner. If you are in the modd for some good grease, go to Fat Boy for some old-fashioned drive-in service. It is just south of Cook's Corner on the Bath Rd. Turn your lights on for service. Bath also has plenty to offer. We have already rented Little Harbor for next year. If you don't mind a place that is small, a bit rustic, and absolutely perfect, than this is the cottage for you! This would be a perfect honeymoon spot for anyone looking for some peace and quiet to enjoy their new beginnings together. It's great for anyone who just wants to get away from the ratrace of everyday and relax. We would highly recommend Little Harbor to anyone who asked.

Disliked: Cleanliness
The view was amazing, disappointed in the bathroom (rust stains, dirty) and cleanliness of the place
The view is amazing - you see the ocean from the porch / living room / kitchen, never seen a location like it. The VERY unfortunate part is the general cleanliness of the place, it is very old and dusty and needs a very good thorough cleaning. It has a very old carpet and the bathroom is full of rust stains in the shower, sink and toilet. There were ants on the kitchen counter. We wore hotel slippers the whole time, flip flops in the shower, and covered the (derelict) couches with towels and sheets as we were not comfortable in touching them. Thank goodness we brought Clorox with us. If you like clean places - like in a hotel - then this place is not for you. We loved the view, hearing the waves crash on the ocean, but would not come back a second time due to the cleanliness of the home.
