Blinking Light Kept me up All Night
The hotel is clean, service was great, and the environment is really cool. The thing that nearly ruined the trip was a large blinking light from a building behind my room. The blackout curtains didn’t cover the entire wall so the flashing light was visible the entire night. I should have asked to be moved to another room but already had my stuff unpacked and spread everywhere. Upon checkout, I let the concierge know. They apologized but said they had no control over it. Make sure your room doesn’t overlook the post office/industrial buildings.

The valet was horrible and tried to pocket $20.. He said he takes tips too. We don't need to be reminded. After he was given $20, we we're then told the valet fee would be added to our bill.

What a lovely boutique hotel. I'm glad I decided to stay here rather than some chain hotel. The service was just top notch. Staff greeted me no matter where I was on the property. The valet is exceptional and considering how expensive it can be in larger cities it was so economical and swift and the valets were great to chat with while waiting for my rental. The breakfast I had one morning was yummy as well. The decor of the building was a nice histiric feel and the rooms were nice too. Loved the bathroom with the Black tile and the shower was unique. I wish I had more time to eat at the bar downstairs or check out the roof top (saw it from my room and it looked very inviting) Room wasn't big but was just right. If I have a reason to return to Bakersfield I plan to stay there.

I had high expectations, as several friends told me they loved staying here. However, my room was beset with several problems, including a toilet paper holder that fell apart onto the floor; the shower knob that fell onto the floor; and a weird static sound coming from the fire alarm speaker. I had to use a white noise app to mask this disconcerting and intermittent sound. In addition, though the in-house restaurant had great Google reviews, my meal of a caesar salad with grilled shrimp had wilted lettuce, a gallon of dressing that was clearly from a can or bottle, and reheated grilled shrimp - that were partially cold. I'm not sure what the allure is here; it was an ok place to stay, but not worth the hype.

Our stay was good. The majority of the staff was friendly. We checked-in on the day their second floor restaurant opened. The service sucked. There was a gal (I wish I asked her name) who worked in the cafe. She was friendly, talkative, and she went above and beyond. The staff in the bar were good. However, on my second night I ordered food and it never came. They definitely need to iron out the kinks. Overall, it is a fun place to stay.
