I travelled to Ontario (where I was born) for a reunion with my siblings, one of whom lives in Bancroft. My sister and I drove up from Toronto, and one of my brothers and his wife, as well as my niece and her husband also drove up separately from Southampton and Thornhill, respectively.The 4 siblings hadn't been together in almost 30 years, so it was a very special trip. As well, a half-sister was travelling with her two children, and it had been well over 30 years since we were all last together. We were all booked at the Sword. I booked a room for me and my sister months in advance through Expedia. My brother in Bancroft arranged everyone else's reservations. When we arrived, on August 6, 2024, I expected to pay the same rate as the others, but was told that my rate was higher because I had booked online. For the same reason, I wasn't entitled to the BCAA member discount. Needless to say, I was quite upset because of this. The inn is rather shabby. The glass door on our unit was cracked. My sister found a piece of macaroni and cheese on the bathroom floor. The drain plug in the bathtub didn't work. One of the lightbulbs in the bathroom was out, and I had to ask for a replacement. My brother and his wife experienced problems with the TV in their unit, as well as some other issues, and cut their stay short after one night. It was a very big disappointment.
