Black Bear Lodge Long Range Mountain Views, Hot Tub, Wood Burning Fireplace, Valle Crucis Area

ACCOMMODATIONS: Black Bear Lodge has three bedrooms, but one additional private sleeping area.
Main level: Master King
Upper level: Master Queen
Lower Level: Queen Room, Bunk Room with one Full, three Twins, and a Trundle

This custom home is one of our most popular, with stunning long-range views across the mountains to be enjoyed while soaking in the hot tub or from the fire-pit area on the deck beside the home. Inside enjoy the especially well-outfitted kitchen, central AC, wood-burning fireplace, pool table, Foosball and flat screen tvs. All this and more awaits you in a lovely Valle Crucis setting, convenient to most area attractions and events.

Black Bear Lodge is a knotty pine paneled log cabin, comprising two main floors and a loft. It was completed in the fall of 2008 and welcomed its first guests in December 2008. It sits at an elevation of approximately 4000' and, from virtually every room, has unsurpassed and unobstructed majestic views of the mountain ranges and valleys as far away as forty miles to the north.

The main floor contains the spacious post-and-beam Great Room with soaring ceilings, a window wall open to the wrap-around covered deck overlooking the distant mountains, a wood-burning stone fireplace, game table, and a cozy sitting area for the wall-mounted 46” flat screen HDTV with a six speaker Blueray surround sound system for BDs, DVDs or CDs as well as an Ipod docking station to play your personal music collection. Just off the great room is the commodious gourmet kitchen with honed granite counter tops, abundant cabinet space and top-of-the-line built in stainless appliances, including a four burner gas cook top and oven, and a large prep island with built-in microwave and additional seating. The adjacent dining room was designed to seat eight comfortably around a large oak farm table. From the kitchen, you can enter the windowed laundry room with modern front-loading washer and dryer. Also on the main floor is a powder room and a very large master bedroom with king bed, private en suite master bath, raised pine ceiling and direct access to the covered back deck.

Imagine yourself resting comfortably in the softness of the cushions in the great room, your favorite book in hand, the soothing warmth from the crackling fireplace, the snow covered mountains out your window reminding you of another place and time, the quiet images brought on by the surround sound stereo, the smell of baking in the nearby kitchen. As they say,,,it doesn't get much better than this!

On the second floor is the loft, reserved for another master bedroom suite with a log frame queen bed nestled under twin skylights in the pine-paneled vaulted ceiling, and a very private en suite master bath containing a separate glass-enclosed stall shower and a raised soaking tub to soothe both body and mind.

The lower level has voluminous 9 ½ foot ceilings and contains an additional spacious and beautifully-appointed country chic master bedroom with a queen bed and comfortable sitting area. There is a private room for the kids with Foosball table, and many sleeping options: a full, three twins, and a twin trundle. There is a large master-style bathroom with double vanity and glass-enclosed tub/shower and, to relax and entertain the guests, an enormous, deluxe recreation room with a Minnesota Fats pool table, a 52” flat screen HDTV and its own private covered deck with sumptuous hot tub overlooking the distant mountains. Who could ask for more in a North Carolina mountain retreat?

Each of the cabins' bathrooms has a granite vanity top with two sinks and rustic cross-handled faucet sets and antique barn-wood-framed mirror above. Each also has an enclosed toilet room for the ultimate in comfort and privacy.

The cabins' ample heating and air conditioning systems have three separate zones, each with its own thermostat, so that each living area can be regulated to achieve the desired climate for your personal comfort.

The floors of the cabin are made of rustic wide-plank knotty yellow pine that have been carefully stained and oiled to remind you of days long gone when mountain homes were crafted entirely by hand from available materials. In keeping with this spirit of self-sufficiency the mantel over the fireplace, the sofa table in the great room, the serving shelf in the dining room and the small shelf in the lower hallway all were hand-crafted by a local artisan from a tall, regal cherry tree that was felled to make room for the cabin.

great mountain getaway
Beautiful cabin with spectacular view, alittle off the beaten path . There was a broken fence in drive way area that needed repaired looked like it had rotted and just collapsed . cleaning could have been better but we adjusted. Over all the cabin was beautiful and enjoyed the stay.

Great place to stay!
We enjoyed our time at Black Bear Lodge. There are definitely some updates that could be done at the home but overall it was a lovely place. The kids enjoyed having a separate place downstairs and the view was amazing!

Thanksgiving in the mountains!
My family of four shared this property with my inlaws and my brother in law and his family (4). There was plenty of space for all of us to spread out and have some alone time when needed. The kids loved playing downstairs and spent the week creating a movie "The haunting at Black Bear Lodge"! It was so cute! We loved the large dining table that fit everyone comfortably for all meals including Thanksgiving! The views were lovely and we all enjoyed the hot tub and the wood burning fireplace. The loveseats in the family room were fine but the coils in the longer couch are exposed and you could feel them through the cushions. In general this house is clean and adequately appointed but the property could really benefit some TLC and a few new furniture pieces. The overall location is a little more remote than we expected but once we made the trip once it wasn't so bad. I would not attempt the drive to the cabin without four wheel drive in the winter months. The view is gorgeous! In short, we all had a wonderful Thanksgiving week at Black Bear Lodge and would recommend to others.

Great cabin with beautiful views
This property was nice, has plenty of space, has great views, and is conveniently located. The drive up the hill is a bit rough for a portion, but doable. There was some dust throughout the cabin, but I'm probably more picky about that than most. The pool table isn't "regulation" size and wasn't level, and there was only one working pool cue. I would recommend this cabin and would probably stay here again. We really enjoyed the stay.

Roomy with a Great View
We stayed here with family to ski Sugar and do winter fun activities with the kids. The property was very clean, good for dogs (esp. with the gated back porch), and more roomy than we expected. The hot tub, pool table, smart TVs, large porch overlooking the Blue Ridge mountains, log cabin interior/exterior, small gestures like starter house/toiletry supplies, and good-sized kitchen and dining area were positive features. The furnishings, carpet, rugs, and some other home features (like closet doors) could use some updating, along with the decor. It would make a good property great. The only real negative is that it is tucked quite a ways off the main road, and the long, winding road that leads to it is partially dirt, which could cause some issues in extreme rain/ice or with general driving anxiety. But this is generally a good rental and we appreciated the overall cleanliness.

Wonderful mountain cabin
This cabin was great! Perfect layout for a large family or a couple of families with kids. The kitchen was well stocked, we didn't miss a thing and the house was prepared perfectly upon our arrival with plenty of towels. It felt very cozy, but was very spacious with lofty ceilings and beautiful beams and wood everywhere in the house. The porch was gorgeous, but there wasn't much of a yard since it is situated on a big hill. However, this offered beautiful views. Thankfully, we came prepared with a lot of food and an F250 because we arrived just as a winter storm was coming in and were stuck in for a couple days. This was actually pretty nice after a lot of travel to get there from Florida and we just enjoyed spending time in the house so much. This was our first time in the area and because of the winter storm, we didn't get around to see too much, but there are plenty of things close by. The roads off of the main roads are winding and steep. We had to go quite slow in the snow and ice but we still managed to get around easily enough. (A 4WD is an absolute must have for the winter!) 20 minutes to Sugar Mountain, another 5 to Banner Elk. 40 minutes to Appalachian Ski Mountain and only about 15 minutes to Hawks Nest tubing. Other things to mention - good Wifi connectivity, Amazon Fire TV, tankless (endless) water heater, lot of games and puzzles to stay busy, plenty of space to spread out but an open floor plan that kept us all feeling connected at the same time. The property managers were excellent and communicated very well about everything in advance and around check in. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely come back to this property.

Stunning views and beautiful home. Couple things need fixed.
This is a perfect home for a large group with dramatic views of the mountains stretching endlessly. Everything was perfect except the jacuzzi tub for the upstairs bathroom wasn't able to have the bubbles turned on, one of the surround sound speakers upstairs (the rear right one) crackled a bit and the basement speakers are way outdated and the right one completely didn't work. It would also be nice if some of the bedrooms other than the master had a TV. Other than that the home is phenomenal and I would definitely return.
