About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
THE BERGHOUSE with Jacuzzi - Via Matteotti, 29 Bergamasco
The Berghouse is an exceptional country house, renovated and equipped in 2018. It was built in 1910 on an ancient medieval Christian property. It is silent, safe and comfortable; perfect for a family or group of friends. The owners speak good English and live next door and guests are welcome to ask for help or questions at any time.
Composed by
2 floors,
garden with ancient "porch" and garden lounge,
3 bedrooms (sleeps 6),
2 bathrooms,
2 living rooms,
1 kitchen and dining room
and shared use of:
a converted barn with spectacular panoramic veranda, external summer rooms, with lounge, luxury table with 12 seats and tennis room. Decorated with many old artifacts.
Ground floor.
The entrance opens into a dining room and kitchen. There is also a living room with an old piano and a bathroom with toilet and tub.
First floor.
There are three double bedrooms, one with a fireplace. The bedrooms can comfortably accommodate six people, with two double beds and two single beds. There is also a shared bathroom with shower.
Outside.
The converted barn offers a very large panoramic veranda, which can be used as a summer living room. It is ideal for eating until late in the evening, overlooking the hills with woods and vineyards in the distance.
There is a large garden with a barbecue and wood oven and outdoor seating.
The area.
The house is located in Bergamasco, a village located in the beautiful Monferrato wine area, at the beginning of the Belbo valley, along the road leading to the Langhe (Alba-Barolo). The origins of Bergamasco date back to 1,000 AD. C. After 1000 d. C., for five centuries, it was part of the Marquis of Incisa. It then passed to the Paleologo family, the Marquis of Monferrato, and then to the Gonzaga-Nevers family, the rulers of Mantua. In 1708 it became part of the Kingdom of Savoy. The Marquises of Incisa were themselves the barons of Bergamasco until 1514, then the Marquis Perboni of Oviglio, then the Marquis Peretti, and finally, from 1662, the Marquis Moscheni.
The village of Bergamasco is located on the edge of the UNESCO heritage landscape ("Wine Landscapes of Langhe - Roero and Monferrato"). It is the perfect place from which to explore the Monferrato and Langhe regions, with all the food, wine and breathtaking landscapes they bring. To help you see all this, we have a cycle available for you to borrow.
The area is famous for its food, with truffles, agnolotti, taiaren and game dishes. In the village there are three bars and two grocery stores. One of the bars, SOMS, has a restaurant and offers takeaway pizzas. The two closest cities are Alessandria and Nizza Monferrato. Both have good shops and many restaurants.
Nearby there are many wineries that produce and sell wine. The area is famous for Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Brachetto, Moscato, Roero Arneis and Cortese wines. You can taste before buying! Also on the hill opposite the Berghouse is the village of Mombaruzzo, famous for its Amaretti biscuits and home to the renowned Berta distillery, which produces some of the best grappas you've ever tried.
Throughout the year, all surrounding villages have festivals celebrating their patron saints and other key dates. Bergamasco has three main celebrations that see people eating together on the street and celebrating in the town square. July 25 is the day of San Giacomo (San Giacomo), celebrated with mixed boiled meat and bagnet (mixed meats boiled with sauces). In the first week of September we celebrate the harvest with a cattle fair and mixed fish fry. On the second Sunday of October we have a Truffle Fair, not to be missed, with a truffle market, music and popular songs, truffle food and local wine. The prizes are awarded for the largest truffle, for truffle hunting with dogs and a painting competition.
We live here all year round, but we think the best time to visit is from May to October, when the sun is shining.
