If you are looking for a rental cabin that has everything you could possibly want as well as a place to relax while surrounded with the sights and sounds of nature, stay in Fireflies. The cabin is located along the New River waterfront across from the 57-mile New River Trail State Park. The cabin rests 200 feet from the water not far from a bend in the river. You can watch the sun come up over the mountain and the mist rise above the river while sitting on one of Fireflies’ two porches.The New River is 350 million years old and retains the pristine beauty of an unspoiled waterway. Enjoy canoeing, tubing, kayaking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, or fishing from our floating dock. If you would like dining and entertainment options, Fireflies sits midway between Wytheville and Christainsburg with both cities just 35 minutes away. Located within 45 minutes of 3 wineries.


Why the Owner Chose Barren Springs: : We are originally from New Jersey. While vacationing in the New River Valley in 2004 we fell in love with the area. We purchased property on the river in 2005. As this was our second home we rented it as a vacation rental for 3 years before our retirement. In 2009 we moved into our home and began to build a small cabin on the property close to the river. The cabin, which we call Fireflies, is now ready to be enjoyed by vacationers looking for a place to relax.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin: : Year Purchased: 2010 - The cabin sits just above the riverbank and has large windows and two porches that have been designed to enable you to enjoy the abundance of nature. It is common place to see the deer in the early morning and again in the evening. Water birds of many varieties fly up and down the river each day and it is not unusual to see a bald eagle.

Owner Description/Comments:: This property is owned by Bill and Kathie Conaway both of whom are retired. Bill and his father spent the last year building the cabin.
During your stay at this cabin, you're just a quick walk from New River. You'll find features such as 1 hot tub. Free WiFi and in-room jetted baths are available in the cabin.

2nd visit to Fireflies, both times to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Dog walks on the New River Trail and visited a couple nearby vineyards. This made for a relaxing weekend. Like last year, the deer are entertaining to watch and they nearly come onto the back porch.

We were traveling north from NC in order to get away from tornado watches/warnings and an already flooded home... our hosts were incredible and so very accommodating. Comfortable, quiet, relaxing and beautiful. We had our 13 yr old daughter and our sweet but big puppy along for the adventure.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a lovely time in the secluded cabin with our little English bulldog, Goose. We spent the nights by the fire, enjoyed the local wineries, and got a chance to go up the river on the kayaks for a relaxing day on the water. Would 100% come back to this property.

Clean, Beautiful, Restful
After searching through many places to stay, I can't believe we found such a perfect place! This is now our go-to vacation spot. Bill and Kathie really pay attention to detail and include so many helpful perks. We made good use of the kayaks with our pup, caught fireflies, grilled, went star-gazing, and relaxed in the jacuzzi. We'll definitely be back!

Great Romantic getaway!
My partner and I loved it. The hosts were great, and it was a beautiful experience. There were many Wildlife: deer, Falcons, and even a Bear running across the field. I am already booking another longer stay. Three or more nights are perfect. The well-stocked kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal after spending a day on the river, Kayaking or just laying out on their dock.

Home away from home
I can't say enough about our stay. They literally though of everything possible that one could need plus some. As soon as you walk in, it just feels like home. Kathie left fresh Pumpkin muffins on the table for us upon arrival. The property in itself is breathtaking. We spent hours on the porch off of the living room. We were lucky enough to get a little storm during our stay so we got to enjoy the storm on the porch and watch as the lightening and fireflies lit up the night. It was a magical experience. The fish were jumping and ready to eat, unfortunately, they didn't like our dinner lol I am so glad that we were able to find this gem, and so close to home at that. It is only a 25 minute drive from home so we will definitely be making this a regular getaway. Thank you Bill and Kathie for sharing your amazing place with us!

Honeymoon bliss!
My husband and I spent a week at the cabin for our honeymoon, and it was amazing! It's such a peaceful and tranquil area. We spent most of our time sitting out on the patio area or down by the river, just listening to nature. The cabin itself is lovely, too. Very comfy bed, nice bathroom, updated and well-stocked kitchen. We highly recommend staying, even if just for a weekend!

Perfectly Cozy
The cabin was so comfortable! I loved everything - heated tile floors, the heater over the toilet, jet tub, huge picture windows overlooking the river, everything you need in a kitchen with added bonuses like coffee, creamers, hot chocolate and condiments - you know the things you always forget to bring! They also left fresh farm eggs and muffins, yum! Our dogs loved running down the hill and smelling all the wildlife. Deer came a visited both days. We truly enjoyed the space.
