Local Restaurants
It is best to check online for the current opening times as these have varied greatly due to COVID. Pubs The closest pubs are The Lamb in Spaxton and The Rising Sun in West Bagborough. There are several pubs in Nether Stowey, Bishops Lydeard and Cannington which also serve food. On the road to Taunton is The Swan at Kingston St Mary and a little further afield on the A39 (6.5 miles) is the The Plough at Holford. Cafes Foxy Bean at Adscombe Blackmore Farm (A39) Kitchen at Quantock Lakes (A39) Asian food Saffron Indian Restaurant Cannington (dine in and takeaway) China Cottage (Chinese takeaway) Taunton and Bridgwater have a wider range of eateries including fast food outlets. The Green Olive (Mediterranean restaurant) in Bridgwater and Blue Ocean (fish and chips takeaway) in Taunton are worth a special mention as is Augustus Restaurant (Bistro) in Taunton.
Local Attractions
There are plenty of walks and mountain bike routes on The Quantocks to enjoy but a good place to start is Ramscombe/Great Wood. Plenty of tracks and routes lead off from a central BBQ area which lends itself to circular routes of varying length. There is a lovely cafe, The Foxy Bean, at the start of this Forestry Commission site, although the cafe is not open every day. Another popular walk is Cothlestone Hill which on a clear day has fabulous views towards Bridgwater and Taunton. This is a popular walk for dog walkers so the car park can get busy at times. We particularly like a walk which includes views over the Severn Estuary from Dowsborough Camp - the site of an old Iron Age hill fort (scheduled monument) near Nether Stowey. West Somerset Railway -Bishops Lydeard to Minehead Fyne Court National Trust - Broomfield Coleridge Cottage National Trust-Nether StoweyBlue Anchor and The Driftwood Cafe Swimming -Mill Farm, Quantock Lodge, Bridgwater, Taunton Outdoor pool - Street Enmore Park (18 hole) 4.5 miles away Cannington Golf Centre (9 hole with driving range) 6.5 miles away.
