Faded Lady but Value for Money
Derided by some, Britannia Hotels do the nation a great favour by taking on some of the ‘glamour hotels’ of the past. In making them affordable for the mass market compromises have to be made and with the Palace Hotel this shows in some of the areas of decor. The ‘Spa’ was a limited experience- a small weights room, an excellent steam room and sauna but the pool was cold and there was no “jacuzzi”. Breakfast was fine though we arrived at 9am, 30 mins before it closed, and the room was packed and the staff a little overwhelmed- our fault for being late arrivals. At £72.50 for a compact room plus breakfast it was excellent value.

The outside was phenomenal. Loved it. Inside was back in the 1800s and old fashioned. The pool was cold. Breakfast wasn’t the best with the hot chocolate empty. Toaster was slow and not working properly. Nice staff in the hotel though

Perfect stay for a short walk into Buxton
Lovely stay. Have been coming here for over ten years. We were greeted by a very friendly young man on reception and lovely chat in the bar area too with the barman and other guests.

Building very large and very old so the upkeep is going to be a challenge. Couldn't turn the heating down or off in the bathroom so it was nuclear hot in the room when we entered. Had to sleep with the old sash window open. Stayed in room 52 which had no lift access, massive bathroom, ceilings really high, not many power sockets for charging your electricals, TV off to the side of the bed in front of the window which made shutting curtains a challenge. You had to pay for wi-fi for each device in the room but it was free in the lobby.

Hotel was ok but after we came back from a night out we found somebody else’s jacket on our bed. Told receptionist who didn’t seem that interested. Woke up in the night to someone trying to enter the room. Told reception in the morning and they are going to look in to it

Eveything was beyond amazing tbh! It is a lovely hotel and super tidy and clean! If you have trouble sleeping be sure to bring your own pillow, but other than that I really cannot fault it! Parking on site was excellent

Swimming pool was cold and we had to pay for the use of the pool which should be stated on hotel.com web site. We picked this hotel due to it having a pool and parking both which we had to pay extra for

Built in 1868, this is a Majestic Hotel that sits on a hill overlooking the town of Buxton. It has a Victorian appearance when you walk through the revolving doors, but with a luxurious, and comfortable feel in the reception, and lounge, bar area. The staff greet you on arrival with a smile, warm and friendly.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two lovely nights. We were very pleasantly surprised by the size of our room and were impressed by the cleanliness and quality of the hotel in general. It is a grand looking hotel, huge and spacious with a pool and gym and marvellous looking banquet rooms. We only ate breakfast at the hotel during our stay there and it was a pleasant experience. We ate out at a couple of the many restaurants in the town centre. I can fully recommend the nearby Thai restaurant where the food was delicious. My one and only complaint is there is no free Wi-Fi. It costs £7 per device per day, which would incur an additional charge of £28 fo both me and my wife. That said though we thought the price of our two night stay was very reasonable and the staff we interacted with were really polite and friendly. We will definitely be back.
