In search of breakfast.
This is a modest, small place. Not really a hotel at all - more a case of Pub with Rooms. We were shocked when we asked, "What time do you serve breakfasts?" A reasonable question? "We don't do breakfast!" was the reply. The (friendly) manager waved her hand vaguely out of the window and told us of a cafe, supposedly a short walk away. We managed to get milk and next morning, made a cuppa and set of to find the breakfast cafe. After a fifteen minute hike we found ourselves well into Penarth before we found a very unprepossessing place we were not attracted to. We walked on until we found a better place. Next two days we went in search of breakfast by bus. The Hotels.com entry says, 'Breakfast available.' A bus ride to breakfast? Never again! HOWEVER - we enjoyed dinner in the pub in the evening. Excellent, hearty meal.

Simple place to stay.
Simple, clean room. Live music in the bar downstairs, but the rooms are fairly well insulated, so the noise wasn't bothersome. Quick check-in, very convenient to Penarth, in a cute, mostly residential area.

Quiet, convenient, clean
A great budget room, reasonably clean, but not fancy. I don’t mind if the towels don’t match if the room is clean and comfortable. The car park is hidden around back, but there’s a reasonable amount of on street parking as well, and the location is convenient to Cardiff but quiet.

Hard to imagine a smaller room - nothing like the photos. Noises from plumbing in other rooms and people using the stairs just outside. Stain on sheet. Staff member fine (I only saw her for a minute or two on arriving) and shower excellent but the hand basin (on top of the cistern) was miniscule - not enough room in it for both hands let alone brushing teeth or filling the kettle. Loo paper tiny too!

Hotel was great and in good location. Only problem was they locked the car park earlier than on sign and I had to park around the corner when I arrived at 1045 pm.

Supposedly a bar and restaurant, Arriving to find the place was in the middle of renovation, No bar no restaurant ended up having to drive to town to eat. Think I was bitten by bed bugs. Think the place will be alright when it's finished

Room fine, though armchair and table/desk would have been nice. Car park and plenty of on-road parking nearby. Good full English breakfast.

This is a quaint, small hotel located in Penarth.
With our early arrival, we had to wait a bit at the very-near bus stop for the business(pub) to open. We were allowed to leave our bags inside and go exploring the Cardiff area until the room would be ready. There was some concern about getting how we would get our large luggage up the stairs. However, upon our return that afternoon, our room was ready and luggage had already been carried up for us. The room was very nice, well-furnished, and had a private full bath. There were tea and coffee provisions, as well. Everything was clean. The room overlooked the schoolyard and road intersection, allowing us to see and hear local life. The pub downstairs was very traditional and seemed to have neigborhood regulars. Lunch and dinner were offered daily, so we tried it one night. The food was good and varied, but it took a bit longer to be prepared since it is a small business.

Definitely would go again.
Enjoyed my stay, great location south of the city. Quiet neighbourhood and about a mile from the station. There was a live band playing in the pub below tat didn't finish until late, but other than that it was a great place to stay.

Friendly staff and good location
We stopped at the Cefn Mably as a base for a football game at Cardiff and to meet friends in Cardiff. The hotel rooms are in good condition and we had everything we needed as a base. The only potential downside for some would be the music played until midnight, but this was not a problem for us and we were warned beforehand. If you do want a quieter, earlier night, then it would be best to look elsewhere.

Value for money
Lovely, comfortable room, easy drive to Central Cardiff- amazing value for money. I would definitely return. I only have two very minor criticisms- the room wasn't particularly warm (I slept in my jumper) and the car park sign isn't very easy to see at night (I only spotted it when I'd overshot the turning & drove back along the road in the opposite direction). Apart from that- fantastic hotel all round!

Standard Village Inn/BnB
Rooms are above a bar, which could be good or bad depending on your POV. Proprietor (Ovis) was very accomodating. Room was standard for an older inn in an older building -- furnishings aren't new, but not ancient either -- everything was clean and there was a decent-sized flat screen TV on the dresser. Could use an electrical outlet in the bathroom, but back when the place was built people probably didn't have electric everything for getting ready in the morning. If you're expecting the Sheraton, this isn't for you -- if you want a comfortable night's sleep with everything you need for a decent price, this is perfect. Note: there's no 24-hr desk clerk; check-in ends at 10pm.
