I thought this hotel was awesome, less expensive while still being in the middle of all the best parts of town. Staff was super friendly and just overall soooo accommodating! We got to town earlier than expected and they let us check in early, which saved an entire day of our trip from exhaustion(we got up at 4am and had a late night ahead of us, so the nap was needed). The vibe is really cool with lots of updated aesthetic. Bar / restaurant has great food, and every guest gets a free specialty cocktail. I would absolutely stay here again!

It was meh.
Staff was super friendly! Easy check in and check out. Room was meh. Pictures looked better than the real deal. Upon entering, the room walls were dirty and had pencil markings all over. Ac didn’t work ( Chicago had weird warm weather for the season ). Room with a view was nothing special. City scape was nice, the parking garage next to the window was not. Car alarms at 2am were not pleasant. Bed was comfy. Sheets were a bit dirty. Bathroom was tiny and the shower head was gummed up with grime. I wanted to save money, but I should have spent the extra to stay elsewhere.

It was dirty the lights in our room were so dusty looks like never cleaned. You could hear into the other rooms and every noise. Floors not swept. It’s October and the heat was on and you couldn’t use air conditioner they turn them off so it was sweating hot and the fan they provide was a mini fan didn’t do anything

Local parece sujo. Quando cheguei não tinha sabonete para as mãos e encontrei sujeira e poeira pelo quarto e na cama. Dividi o quarto com uma mulher que "morava" lá, não me senti confortável ou há vontade em nenhum momento. Local não me passou segurança nenhum, nem dentro, nem na vizinhança

Lors de mon solo trio, j’ai passé deux nuits dans cet hostel. J’ai passé un agréable moment, je me suis sentie safe dans l’hostel. J’ai bien aimé le fait qu’il y ait des petits rideaux afin d'avoir un minimum d’intimité lorsqu’on est au lit. La chambre n’était pas toujours dans le meilleur des états, mais lorsqu’on partage l’espace avec d’autres personnes, malheureusement faut s’attendre à cela. Quelqu’un avait mangé des arachides et en avaient jetés pas mal au sol. Un soir, je suis rentrée et la porte était ouverte. La dernière personne qui avait quittée la chambre n’avait pas fermée la porte. Heureusement rien n’avait été volé. Certains membres du personnels à l’accueil étaient très sympa et d’autres pas vraiment :/ En général, l’expérience était bonne. Ce serait sympa d’ajouter une option petit déjeuner ou juste alors ajouter un petit frigo dans les chambres.

I was very young when Freehand opened. My Dad invested in this property with expensive wood furnishings as a gift and value for single travellers to be naturally comfortable. I always think of him when I stay here.

The bathrooms were beautiful but not the vest functionaly and the shower had hair and water stains so it didn't seem clean. The closet was absolutely tiny,only 2ft wide, it looked like a pipe access not a closet. It was pretty loud all night from the parking garage next door. There is no parking and overnight fees in the nearby garages are astronomical. The staff was amazing though and it has such a fun atmosphere.

I stayed in a mixed dorm. I thought it might be awkward but it was fine. Everyone was courteous and tried to be respectful of everyone sleeping. The beds were comfortable, and the lockers secure. The bar downstairs is busy and social. The neighborhood is fantastic for sightseeing, walking, bus and train access, food and shopping. It’s well lit and busy at night, it feels safe to walk around as a solo woman. I would stay there again anytime.

Nice and friendly staff. Clean room. The only downside is that there is no sitting area or lobby if you want to have your snack as it is in use by the bar and they don’t let you sit if they are busy and there is no more area to seat. My roommates were sleeping and I couldn’t use my room and bother roommates. Generally happy and recommend the property.
