The room I had was very small. It wasn’t in the best condition but it is very convenient to access the Dom area and transit. So as long as you know that, and if you are looking for a place just to lay your head, this property would be fine.

Worst ever hotel stay
This is without doubt the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. We had booked to four nights but checked out after one it was so bad - we have never left a hotel early before but we could not wait to get out of here. From the first moment when the receptionist ignored us to talk to her hairdresser friends on the lobby to the moment the next morning when we gave her back the keys and left as quick as we could, it was a nightmare. Our room was unbelievably hot. There was an AC unit in our room that did not work. When I asked at reception about the issue the man there laughed at me and said there was no AC in the hotel. I left wondering whether the AC remote in my hand was a figment of my imagination. The room was dirty and squalid. The carpet in our room had more stains than it did actual carpet. There was a kitchen that came with one dirty bowl one unwashed glass with lipstick stains and various other crockery that looked like it has not been cleaned in years. The curtains in all of the rooms did not close properly. They failed to cover the windows and meant you could not block out the light. The curtains themselves were so thin they had no effect anyway. Then there was the building work. Our whole floor except for our room was being ripped apart and rebuilt. There was building noise until 6pm on the day we arrived and it started again at 8am the next morning. It was really loud. They were also hot treating the roof and the smell sealed into the room. Truly awful.

The hotel had an odor upon arrival.Drunks in the lobby, and was filthy. I took the chance to see the room which was appalling.A tiny, dirty room with a plastic mattress with ants all over it and the blanket. I was shocked and horrified that Expedia would list such a place. Clearly a flop house of sorts.I am requesting a refund.

Some hiccups and obstacles
On arrival we were told there was a city tax to pay which I think Hotels.com should have dealt with when we booked the room. We booked a twin room and then received a single double bed. There was a staff shortage and after some waiting we were given another room which we manually separated the double bed. The shower fountain kept falling down and the was no plug for the bath. There was no luggage storage room left when we checked out. Good location and average hotel and average service overall 6/10.

While this hotel is in an excellent location, I was a bit surprised that this was the most expensive hotel that we stayed at in all of Germany but it was the most basic. No airconditioning, a hair salon in the foyer, quite dated and am not sure why it has "Arthouse" in its name

Does the job
Basic hotel but did the job. Hard to tell about pricing as was there during Euros and short notice so obv a price spike. Staff friendly enough...room very basic...quite dusty and bedside lights didnt work, no air con (even tho i paid extra for it!)....gets quite noisy due to location so if you are a light sleeper this isnt for you. Had a decent sleep as bed was quite comfy, even in hot weather and thats the main thing. Shower pressure very good and bathroom was perfectly fine. Overall a hotel thats a good base for exploring Koln due to location (2min from cathedral and train station, 5-8min from the Rhine) and somewhere if you just wanna crash- not a hotel if you want a luxury stay.
