The roomy and inviting Mighty Oaks Retreat will fill the bill, whether you're looking for a family getaway or a romantic weekend away from the daily grind. It's remote, yet just down the road from the charming towns of D'Hanis and Hondo.

Built in 1904, the Mighty Oaks Retreat has been beautifully maintained and restored, evoking both its 100+ years of history and a sense of modern luxury. This kid-friendly and pet-friendly cottage ranks up there as one of our most popular country house vacation rentals-one look, and you'll see why!

Behind the cottage, under the cooling shade of the trees, are country rockers for you to kick back in-and, should you need more space, there's also a shaded veranda with a comfy conversation pit for larger gatherings. A charcoal grill is also on hand for open-air dining. The property has 352 acres with a seasonal pond and the wide-open rural setting is ideal for hiking, bird and wildlife watching, and stargazing, and the property is surrounded by miles of country roads that are a sightseer's delight-perfect for a motorcycle tour! The rugged and scenic countryside is the perfect backdrop for a calming and authentic Texas vacation.

Inside, central air and heating assures comfort, and there's a spacious living room to socialize in-with a wood - burning fireplace, too. There's also a cozy little alcove that would serve equally well as a kid's play space or romantic snuggling spot. The kitchen's fully equipped with both appliances and basic utensils, and its centerpiece is a wood-topped island with stools. Mighty Oaks has two bedrooms-one with a King-sized bed, the other with two queens, and a sun room with a sofa pull out-sleeping up to six guests. Both bathrooms are equipped with roomy vintage tubs and the master also has a shower. All bathroom and bedroom linens are provided, as well, and there's a combo washer and dryer on site. Rounding out your modern tech needs are satellite TV, Wifi, and good cell coverage.

Lil house in the country
This stay was amazing. So quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting outside in the cool hill country weather. Loved that there are cows with new calves running around. Also enjoyed the morning wake up by the rooster on property. This property was clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this little piece of heaven to anyone.

Wonderful experience
We loved the peace and quiet of the property. The cows and llama were great entertainment. We laughed so much. The eclipse was amazing. I felt rested and refreshed at the end of our weekend. Really didn't want it to end.

Nice stay
Adorable place way back in the country. The lawn was long so it wasn't horribly inviting to walk around the property. The house was comfortable and had a very neat set up.

Beautiful and relaxing
We wanted to disconnect from the city and this property was exactly that! Beautiful old house, very nice farm. We enjoyed particularly how social all the animals on the farm were! We made friends with all of them and they definitely made our stay more interesting, given that the weather did not cooperate - it rained most of the time.

Peaceful country retreat
Amazing location, very private and peaceful. We a little difficult to get to the location because it is in a very remote location. We honestly thought we were in the wrong place when we first arrived. But we finally found our way to the house! It was beautiful, very clean! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need to cook. We thoroughly enjoyed our time! It was so peaceful! Will absolutely be staying here again in the future!

Secluded Retreat!
This property is secluded and quiet - it was an amazing get away from the city. My husband and I spent a weekend here with our dog, who loved being able to roam free and stretch her legs. The house has a lot of charm - I enjoyed going from room to room, figuring out what was original and what had been added on. The only reason I gave this property a four-star rating was because of the cleanliness, which could be improved. There was a lot of dust and cobwebs in all the corners, the coffee pot hadn't been cleaned out from the last stay, and there was a bit of an ant problem. Despite this, we enjoyed our stay - the location was just perfect, nice and quiet, no one around - there was even a llama that roamed the front yard almost the entire time we were there!

Nice property
There were a couple items he can work on like marking where you need to drive to exit the gates. We ran out of TP in one bathroom and no extra in the house. The baths could use bath mats and the mineral deposits in the tubs didn’t look good. The light over the shed came on ever time the water pump filled the out side tank. Over all it was a nice place Place and I’m sure the owner will fix these little items in the future. If our main place we stay was every full this would be our second choice.
