Spectacular Beauty, Singular Hospitality
The cabin is larger than I expected; it is essentially a small house, and proved supremely comfortable. Vermont gets *cold* in the winter, but we always felt cozy inside. The decor, while simple, is tasteful and evokes a Longfellowian image of a comfortable country retreat. Shower and bath is *hot* and revitalizing.
We hiked up the Appalachian trail and supplied our necessities at the Country Store, both within easy walking distance. Difficult hike in snowy and icy conditions, but well worth it for the views alone. Probably the most beautiful winter visage I’ve ever seen.
What truly made the trip unforgettable was the singular hospitality and amiability of the hosts, however. Not even in Japan does one get that level of generosity, warmth, and Samaritan spirit. The blueberry muffins in particular, especially after 13 hours of hiking, were delicious. The hostess was even so kind as to give us a ride back to the airport.
One will be coming again — though perhaps in warmer times!
