I loved this hotel. I'm an American who was visiting after working in Delhi for a week. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was wonderful. They booked our ride to the airport and they booked us a half day tour with a cab one afternoon go around Dharamshala. It's easy walking distance to basically everything but isolated enough to not ear car horns all night. I would happily stay here again.
Chonor House is a gem and an ideal place to stay in McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala for those interested in Tibetan culture and the Dalai Lama. It's just a short walk from the Main Temple where the Dalai Lama addresses the public from time to time and where you can see daily debates among the monks as well as sacred and beautiful Buddhist objects. Another monastery is even closer, and monks regularly drank tea and ate alongside us in the Chonor House restaurant. The hotel is affiliated with the Norbulingka Institiute, which works to preserve the techniques of Tibetan art, so Chonor House is beautifully decorated in the Tibetan style and has free passes to Norbulingka itself. Enthusiastically recommended!
