This studio apartment is on the top floor allowing for great panoramic views over the castle. The square itself boasts a vast array of shops/cafes/pubs and restaurants. The apartment is compact, bright and clean and provides a great location to explore the Edinburgh Festival. There is a double bed and a sofa bed and comfortably sleeps 3. The kitchen has all the facilities and equipment you need to fully self cater including a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. There is a multi storey car park 2 minutes walk away, although there is no real requirement for a car, as the apartment is located right in the heart of Edinburgh, nestled into the very castle rock itself. For cost conscious visitors to the festival this flat is the ideal offering. Studio apartment with balcony viewing the castle, smart TV, 1 double bed and 1 double sofa bed. All towels, bedding, etc supplied. Washing machine/dryer and dishwasher inc. Recently fully renovated and includes free wireless broadband.

Entry is anytime after 1pm. Check out is by 10am. All bookings are based on sharing. Early arrival and late check out can be arranged with additional cost to be determined by circumstance.

Spacious it is not

Listed as a 1 bedroom, this is a small studio. Getting to the room with luggage is a chore -up 3 flights of narrow, dimly lit, filthy concrete steps. This was a bad first impression but we were hopeful the room would be worth it. It was not. Notice there are only 3 photos of the room, that cleverly lead one to believe it’s a 1 bedroom, while in reality, the bed is located adjacent to the table, nearly in the kitchen. Also, the balcony is approx. 3 x 3 ft, not big enough to comfortably sit two adults, and where was the grill?? Finally, after seeing the condition of the bath towels- well worn, like the ones you wash your car with we could not imagine staying here for 4 nights so we checked into a nearby hotel. I would never recommend this to a friend.

Cute and convenient

This listing was exactly what my husband and I needed on our honeymoon, it was in the heart of the city with an amazing view and we were able to easily get to the royal mile. The only downside to it was not to any fault of the owner but they were doing renovations on the roof while we stayed and were were not able to use the balcony during our stay due to a support pole the placed right infront of the door. Other than that we were very pleased with the apartment!

Castleview

The location was spot on- we saw Edinburgh Castle through our windows. The property manager was very responsive to our questions. We were, however surprised that the rental was 3 flights up spiral stairs, and that there was scaffolding over our front entrance because the roof was being repaired (which was noisy during the day). That being said, we LOVED the view and the proximity to everything. Knowing that it was up 3 flights of stairs, we would stay here again. Tie exercise was well worth the view and proximity to everything!!

Location, Location, Location

Edinburgh was our final stop in Scotland after hiking through the Highlands. The apartment was easy to find, and walkable from bus/train stations. This is a walk up, as others have mentioned, but for us it was manageable. I could see if you travel with multiple/heavy luggage or have mobility issues that it would be a struggle. The location was right in the mix of touristy areas and a quick walk to the castle (the view!), and also had easy access into other neighborhoods/bus stops when we wanted to escape the crowds. Loved the dine-in peninsula for relaxing in the evenings with snacks and telly. Bed was comfortable, water pressure was fine. There's a Sainsbury's nearby, and a little fridge in the unit, which was also nice for snacks and light meals. My only minor issue was some of the kitchen equipment was sticky and needed a good scrub. We mostly only made light breakfasts, so not a deal breaker of any sort. Communication was clear and helpful. We enjoyed our stay!

Awesome castle view

This property is very close to the castle and other visit-worthy locations. Restaurants and shopping are close by. The unit had everything we needed, including a washer/dryer. The host was very helpful and responsive. The listing was accurate regarding the stairs up to the unit - it was worth the climb.

Excellent Location

The flat was very lovely. It was perfect for what we were looking for. The location was central to all the activities we were doing in the old town. The only thing was the lights in the stairwell were not working so it was very dark when we got there. But the view of the castle was get.

The location and view of Edinburgh Castle are fabulous. The Grassmarket area was convenient and lovely. Do be aware that you have to use a winding staircase to access the room. The room is nicely furnished but lacking some basic supplies (no dish soap to hand wash our water bottles for instance)

The building vestibule and staircase are pretty dingy. The Apt itself is modern and tidy but the carpet is stained and needs replacing with something more cleanable. The unit is well equipt for preparing meals and the laundry was a bonus. The location was right in the thick of the tourist areas so very walkable. The communication was prompt but not particularly friendly.

Perfect location and great flat.

We loved staying at this property. The location is fantastic. There are a lot of stairs but we knew that going in and so it didn’t bother us. The flat was clean and comfortable and just exactly as described. We would love to stay here again on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Great Location

The location of the apartment was excellent. There is everything within walking distance with restaurants and local attractions.The view of the Castle from the balcony was fantastic. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the apartment was not up to standard. On arrival the carpet was covered with pieces of white tissue so we had to vacuum before we settled in. Also pieces of crockery were chipped and although the apartment is suppose to accommodate four guests there were only two wine glasses, one huge and one very small. Small things that add up to not a great experience.

Comfortable and a good value

This was a comfortable apartment in a convenient location. It was great having a full kitchen. The bed was probably the most comfortable I've slept in away from home! It was a much better value than a hotel. If staying during warmer months, I suggest bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper and might want to sleep with a cracked window. The apartment is very quiet with the windows closed but it can get a little noisy at times at night with open windows due to the bars and restaurants on the other side of the building at ground level. I imagine this is true for most places in the tourist areas.

Fringe festival for the family

This is in a great spot for fringe festival, my wife and son stayed here, and it was amazing! Got to listen to the Tattoo at night from the balcony! Just a great spot to view the city!

This cozy rental is perfectly placed in Edinburgh’s active Grassmarket District. The property is well equipped for 2 guests and is close to everything. We would absolutely stay again.

Loved it

The place is great and although the 57 steps up were a lot after so many days walking the view made it all worth it. The flat is in a great location to many places. The hot water was a little different and would just swing from hot to cold that made for taking a shower hard. Would stay there again.

Fantastic location in the heart of old Edinburgh. This flat is not for the faint of heart though as there are about 60 steps to haul your luggage up to the apartment. Parking is very expensive as well. Other than that it’s well equipped and in a beautiful spot. If you have a hard time walking this is not the place for you.

Phenomenal Location

We loved staying at this property! My husband and I spent 3 nights in Edinburgh. This location right in Grassmarket was perfect for sightseeing on and around the Royal Mile. There are three floors to climb to reach the flat (so pack light!), but it pays off. The place was charming, clean and well-equipped, and Barry was a helpful host. Plenty of good restaurants and pubs just below. Enjoy!

Terrific Location

This apartment is located right in the Grass Market in the Old Town of Edinburgh. Steps away from the door are restaurants, bars and shops. The castle is in plain sight out of the windows and off the balcony - pretty hard to beat a view like that. Everything in the apartment worked well and the accomodations are very good. There are 3 flights of stairs to get up to the apartment so if you can't do stairs this would be a problem - we found that it was a good bit of exercise.

Edinburgh Castle

This apartment was great! It had everything we were looking forward....and what a location...close to everything or within a short walk (or let me rephrase that, either up this hill, down this hill, up those steps or down those steps. We certainly got a good workout!) The Grassmarket location is a great spot with lots of great pubs (try the Haggis with the Whiskey sauce at The Last Drop). Also, being in an open area, I thought there would be more noise but it was relatively quite. Gord & Jackie

Great location, Inaccurate description of property and facilities.

If you want a very central location in Edinburgh, this is the place for you. But the description of the room and the facilities is misleading. First of all, there is no parking at the premises. There is a parking garage 0.4 miles away and the daily cost is 30 pounds. We chose this particular VRBO listing, because they stated that parking was available. Several other listings were honest and did not include parking, if you had to rely on a parking garage. The listing did not mention that you had to walk of 3 flights of narrow stairs to get to the room. Finally, the room is within 100 meters of an arena for outdoor concerts. On the three nights we stayed in the room, there was a very loud pop concert in the evening, that made it uncomfortable to stay in the room, Finally, we could only receive the check-in instruction after they had cleaned the room on the day of arrival. That is very unusual and was cumbersome for us, since our cell phones had problems. For all the many other rentals we have on our four week tour of England, we have received the check-in instructions 1-3 weeks ahead of arrival. So overall, we felt that this rental property was not what we expected based on the pictures and the description on the VRBO listing.

great stay!

This is an amazing location, I loved it. I could explore all of Edinburgh and easily walk to my conference at the University. The only downside is the walk up, which is only a problem with a large suitcase in tow.

Great location with a wonderful castle view

The apartment was exactly as advertised - bright, comfortable and conveniently located in the Grassmarket. The only problem was with some of the local pubs. Each night we were awakened between 1 and 3 am by loud shouting from drunk revelers in the Castle Wynd directly below our window.
