Found a gecko running around in our room night 1. We did have a garden view room so I guess we were exposed to more creatures than if we had a pool facing room. Front desk did not have a different room to move us into until the next day. A sweet cleaning lady did come spray our room to help prevent bugs or crawlies from coming into the room.The rooms seem old and run down but the staff is very friendly and the service was good everywhere we went whether it be the restaurants or bars.

The pool was really nice the beach was beautiful and it was close to many attractions; however, they were not many restaurant choices many were closed on certain nights and took very limited numbers of people. No Reservations were possible. The bathrooms had an overpowering smell of some kind of air freshener, and the room service was pretty awful. Could use improved dining options, and better room service. Rooms were fine, maid service was very minimal.

I was kind of nervous when I first read the reviews for this resort so I had my reservations but I quickly realized, so many people are WAY too critical. The staff was absolutely amazing and helpful at every turn. Julio, Jonny and Bryan stood out to us the most because they were so friendly and always remembered our names! The rooms are a little outdated but super clean and have gorgeous views. The drinks were amazing! The food was pretty good overall. Papagayo had the BEST dinner ever, that filet and chicken was to die for! Live music was awesome! They always have fun little activities going on which were super fun. The beautiful pools were always clean. The view of the ocean was amazing. It was our honeymoon so we felt we were given extra love the whole stay! We would definitely come back to visit!

Did not feel safe around panhandlers at the beach they were offering me and my husband drugs and sex. Not what I want to experience on vacation. Also we were not happy with room service. Most of the time they never came after waiting 1-2 hours and did not bring us what we asked for. We stayed at RIU in Punta Cana and the room service was great. The rest of the staff was great.

I liked the Beautiful landscape and all the employees we're Great! I didnt like that the music played in dining areas didnt fit the dining setting. For example, rock music being played at an Italian dining experience is off putting. The resort interior styling feels outdated and overall the resort gets noisy in common areas and resort restaurants. RIU earns a 4/5 from me

Pool area and food variety excellent. we do have a coment related to the night entertainment. during the night show there was a very negative situation where a 7 year old kid participated with a karaoke imitating an artist with a song promoting the use of drugs. I think the presentor should have screen the participat and song chosen. I would like to receive a reply as follow up. marvindelgado

Every member of staff was very polite, helpful and accommodating- servoce was excellent. there was always an extensive variety of food at the main breakfast and dinner lounge. Only issue - it rained quite a bit at this time of the year (end of Sept)

I stayed in two locations while I was in costa Rica, Planet Hollywood was outstanding beautiful room amazing view, RIU Palace I was very disappointed the rooms can use some TLC and upgrades. The wear and tear was very evident. There was a moldy smell to the room, our tv very small and never worked. Our lotion, shampoo and conditioner was used by prior guest and never changed during our stay. The tub in the middle of the room needs to be removed. There was no arrival drinks or guest services to deliver our bags to our room. I was very disappointed.

Worse Riu Palace Option
Worse Riu Palace that we have stayed at, and we have stayed at several. Customer service is highly lacking especially in the buffet areas. It’s as though the staff does not want you there. Bottle water policy of one per room is ridiculous! When you call front desk to order water, it never shows up. Same goes for the mini fridge service, never stocked. Shower floor tile is slippery. Beach is terrible.
