Great location for Valetta . Impressive property on arrival but the room decor extremely tired and in need of a refurb . No barrier between neighbouring balconies which would have been preferred . We visited end of October and although weather was good and we enjoyed the pool , it was not possible to get any snacks or refreshments at pool area . No coffee or drinks available at all outside as everything closed . Overall this hotel was nice , decor very dated and bathrooms needed refurb ( rubber mats etc were not very appealing ) good shower . Staff all very pleasant . Breakfast average and we were charged extra for cappuccino coffee . Wonderful views from the dining area . Would consider returning due to location but not if all facilities outside are unavailable .

Fantastic hotel, and wonderful staff. Besides the confusion around which floor to exit from (the Reception is on the 6th Floor), it was pretty easy to navigate our way around the hotel! We were kindly invited to a pre-dinner drinks at an area behind the hotel bar, speaking to senior staff and the owners as well. We loved it so much, and can't wait to go back!

Always reliable over many years.
We have often stayed here, on this occasion paid for full sea view which is highly recommended. As others have commented, perhaps not ideal for those with mobility issues but fair play to hotel which now runs a shuttle service to and from Valletta City Gate at no charge. Acres of space and will certainly visit again. Having tried a couple of other hotels, over the years, as an experiment, I now know that we will always use Grand Excelsior. The building itself is not a thing of beauty but it’s well worth seeing past that.

What a great hotel within walking distance of Valletta. The large pool was amazing and also lovely and peaceful. The decor isn’t modern but everywhere was well kept and clean. The hotel has an old school charm and the staff were very attentive.

Brilliant City destination
The hotel is very stylish and traditional in terms of furnishings with quite an opulent feel. Public areas are spotless and comfortable places and there are plenty of toilets in the bars and restaurants. We found the breakfast buffet to be outstanding with something to suit all tastes. We had two of the themed buffet dinners in the evening and both were excellent. The pool area has plenty of sun beds and a very nice view of the marina/harbour. After a sticky day of of sight seeing it was lovely to enjoy sunset with a cocktail. The hotel is ideally located for the city itself just a 5 minute walk to the centre and 20 mins from the airport. We would have liked the option of a late check out due to having a late evening flight but we used the pool area and changed for the journey in the pool shower room.

This is NOT a 5-star hotel, would give it 3 1/2 stars. The hotel is old a serious renovation would be desired. The front desk is not familiar with VIP benefits despite this hotel claims to be VIP property- I had to ask multiple times reception to get my welcome bottle of wine & room upgrade since I am VIP gold member. Hotel llocation is great to explore old Valeta and free hotel shuttle is very convenient. The most value of this hotel is private beach with sea access, because most properties in the area have NO sea access

I liked this hotel a lot. Its a bit old, I had single beds which I didn't order but the hotel is lovely and in a great location. I did not tell them it was my birthday and yet a cake & bottle of wine turned up which I was not expecting. They must have triggered that from my passport I guess? I will stay here again for sure
