In our never ending quest to bring you more beachside love The RatherShacks has expanded again. Thanks to some very cool neighbors, we’ve been able to turn one of the most unique properties on Folly Beach into the SUNSET SHACK, just down the road from all our other Shacks.
It’s our first PET FRIENDLY Shack, helping us meet a growing demand and proving that once again, you ask, and we deliver…and boy did we ever deliver with this gem. It’s a freestanding single family brick house with a fully fenced yard for pets and kids to roam in controlled chaos. The back yard faces the only inland pond on Folly Beach and has amazing sunset views. Yeah, you get to see the fish jumpin’ and the sun glitter in your private compound after a long day at the beach. (Pond is owned by a neighbor so you cannot access, but the view is free).
Further adding to the unique vibe of this house is the fact that there is no front door… Well there is, but it’s on the back side facing the pond. This house was designed by and built for a psychiatrist in 1972…. with a hangover from the 60’s. She used this place as her office and residence; and she wanted all her patients to experience the relaxing tranquil pond view when entering the office so they had to walk around the back to gain entry. (no worries for you lazy types-- the garage door on the front of the house gets you in directly to the kitchen). With a huge living room facing the pond you can relax inside with AC, or outside in the back yard feeling the breeze lull off the pond. There is also a weird niche altar wall at the edge of the living room --and we have no clue of its use or purpose. Former wood stove platform? Zen hollow? Like I said – 60’s hangover.
The 2 bedrooms and the couch-bed in living room nook can sleep 6 heartbeats. Master bedroom has a queen bed; Second bedroom has a full, and the sleeping nook off the living room has a pull out couch/bed. Kitchen and bath are spacious and still sport the retro chic yellow countertops from the 1970’s. So you will be chillin’ in a vintage classic. And the kitchen has banquet seating so you get to stay cozy with eachother. (Think of it as food therapy). Your enclosed garage is a great place to safely store surfboards and bikes
And with a 1 minute walk to the best beach access on Folly this place delivers true island feel. Because at 13th St East Access there is no car parking, just a path through the oaks and palms and vines – so you feel like you could be on the movie set of Blue Lagoon, Swiss Family Robinson, or even Gilligan’s Island…Let your daydreams wander as you come out of the shade and onto the beach. But just be prepared to have them analyzed back at the office…errr Sunset Shack.
With the outdoor shower you can rinse the salt and sand away before grilling to the max on your private patio with a gas grill.
You now have the chance to add to the rich tapestry of happily psychotic beachlovers who have drifted through this house. Whether you are doing group therapy on the beach or putting the kids in strait jackets for some much needed ME- time we know the SUNSET SHACK will enhance your mental health. If you bring pets at last minute you can pay us direct on arrival as long as you notify us before your departure. (Cash or credit card-- no checks). We require guests to sign a 2-page Short Term Rental Agreement confirming your dates, rates, and house rules. This is sent to you after you book, along with check-in information.
